Boats, but not so many hoes. After looking at the roadmap like I do daily alongside the progress at the main screen. I noticed the little boat on the side and that got the gears in my mind running... Curiosity killed the cat, except in my case I killed many... The boat brought up so many questions and suggestions (Unsure if they were covered at all yet) But here goes...

Does anybody know if large scale boats are a thing that has been talked about? Like actually moving for the sake of ocean worlds?

Also on the mind of large scale boats that can move, can you alter these ships to your own desire, like say... a floating village? or maybe your personal stash of pirate loot? what's the fun of getting all that fun stuff if it just stays stationary on the top of the water, I want it to float and move with me, Cargo ships maybe? What if you are trying to move your place from one island to another and taking the trips many times with all that limited space in your inventory is just tedious and you don't have time for it? That's where customized boats come in!

Or maybe another thing would be pvp battles! ready the cannons, Aim, Fire Mr Smitty! Got em sunk! Their loot be ours!

And on the same note of that... Another thing I know probably would be too complex to create... but maybe when a object that doesn't have enough buoyancy (The ability to stay afloat basically) Or gets sunk by another sea lubber, it would sink to the bottom and become inhabited by the fish people, sharks, ect ect or maybe it's loot itself would become treasure for the next explorer to come across.

Ah I just keep adding on to this... Lets say one world was explored by one person, then another person came across the same world long after they left, would the debris of past exploring still be there? Back onto the idea of sunken ships, the new explorers will know they are not alone kinda deal, maybe looking at the architecture of their ships they can discover who they are, plans for various objects hidden in that boat, or maybe have the knowabouts to somehow bring this ship back to life and sail under the flag of another species! (Or same really depends)

Okay that is my rant post for the day, Feel free to like/hate my idea! I'm all ears :)
(This really isn't all the questions this was just a mere scratch of my mind xD)

People always think of Hoes. I dont get why farming seems to be so fun to some people.

Since Starbound, just like Terraria, is a game of exploration, I doubt there will be large portions of water. The idea is to dig and find stuff on the surface, or sometimes at the bottom of lakes (but still, I doubt the lakes would be large). With that said, I think boats would be useless. Maybe just some little boats like in Minecraft, but I don't see the point in having large boats just for the sake of having them...

What are you talking about... Terraria has a biome specially made for water... and if you haven't been following news on Starbound there is going to be actual planets that are all water basically... o_O

Hello!? We take interstellar travels, we have things that hover and all you would like to see in the game is a ship? Why a ship? Why not a spaceship that could float above the ground, water or anything else...Why bothering to take care of a humble ship when you already have a spaceship, which is not that big, and it could easily float above the ground or water...

What if you like being planet bound? I'd say it would add more of a fun diversity set to Starbound if it was implemented.

I personally wouldnt mind crawling out from the Stone Age into the Space Age myself. Boats are in the middle, and most likely would still serve some purpose after the empire was established.

For example, The Spaniards still used galleys even though they had Ships of War. Galleys happened to BE Ships of war, about 700 years ago.

Customize-able boats sound great (imo). Creating a boat that suits your character and how you want to be perceived. A Viking Longboat comes to mind... :cautious:

Thinking more into that, also customize-able strengths/abilities for the boat, not just aesthetics? Maybe upgrade the belly of the boat, to protect from any monsters that might try and launch their way through the boat from underwater? Haha. :mwahaha:

Boats expend no energy to float, and require very little energy to float across water. A large boat with a nuclear reactor could easily travel long distances with the added benefit of using excess energy to desalinate water and since it's on the ocean you can go fishing. It's very efficient really, you could take little food and water and travel long distances using little energy while still getting food and water on the way. Best of all a large boat could be used like a large spaceship, you could live there or do research, manufacture things, etc. Boats are still used today because of their great traveling efficiency.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I want the option to call a boat 'Das Boot'. Just because it's German and sounds better than 'the boat'.

I am sure there will be boats, as there are water biomes, and likely planets that are mostly if not entirely covered with water.

I am looking forward to the StoneShip Age.

There are two important things, one, would I be able to drill a hole in the bottom of a boat and sink it killing everyone aboard? And two, are we talking smaller wooden boats or huge battleship style boat dungeons? I suppose both could have a place in the game and provide interesting options for exploration. Personally I'd be interested in whether or not we'll see large underwater habitats as dungeons, and whether or not I can take the dungeon heart and drill a hole in the dungeon letting in the water and of course killing everyone inside.
