Block placing feels a bit TOO fluid to me........

the easy solution is to just have the blocks breakable for a quick 2 sec period. It It doesnt limit building and it should be simple to implement.

Yeah, fair enough. I'd even up it to 4 seconds, to make the window of cheese smaller without affecting the ability to build.

Why do we all have to pay because some people use exploits, how about we ignore how others play and play the way we want to be it exploiting or the way the game was intended to be played.

When we are building peacefully, we wouldnt even notice the effects. In a combat situation, you would still be able to wall in an enemy, but it would take some forethought and planning. I dont see why people are opposed to balancing block setting in this way.

It would also require a bit more thought when trying to scale a cliff. I also see that as a plus. You would have to wait 1 second before standing on your own block. Not only is it balanced, it gives building a sense of integrity.

What are you even talking about? I want it changed because it DOES affect me. I think walling in enemies is a good tactic and i like to use blocks to traverse the environment. I DONT like it feeling like a paint program or a cheat. How hard is that to understand?

I would assume the developers themselves would want to change this so that they will have created a balance and unexploitable game.

the fact the ranged weapons don't go threw blocks easily proves melee was not meant to either.

MM is great for building fast and efficient. Kinda bad for building also in a way that most people won't understand. For example: why can a real painting be more impressive than using a wacom tablet and making digital art? Because painting is much harder to master. Digital art can be done in a fraction of the time and achieve more realistic results by a larger % of the population. Or you can use a rendering program to generate landscapes in a snap, that would take a painter hours/days to achieve. The process and method used to achieve such results cannot be overlooked.

MM is absolutely horrible for combat, obviously. It's good if you like getting top tier gear first thing when you enter a new sector. Bad for gameplay in general though. Very, very bad. Once you do it there is no going back. All other methods of combat are obsolete and pale in comparison to its effectiveness.

For all of you with the "If you don't like it, don't use it" mentality -- please think a little harder and try to understand why balance is important, especially for multiplayer. If you can't understand why, then there is nothing to discuss.

Firstly, digital art is just as impressive as painting in real life. None of the take a picture and add filters, REAL digital art like in SB.

Given that the game is a sandbox game and not an adventure game, being able to ignore enemies to pursue the sandbox aspect is fine in my book.

Also, us with the "if you don't like it, don't use it" mentality are actually more understanding than you at this point, we play how we want without impeding. We're not asking that all weaponry gets removed so the MM can shine as the ultimate tool, are we? It's like if grapple-parachute escapes in just case 2 weren't a thing.

In fact, since you insist all other combat forms are moot, here's one for you:

The AWP in Counter-Strike is a 1 hit kill in most cases, and is highly controversial because of this. There are plenty of servers that block it's usage outright. Do I personally find it ridiculous that it exists? Yes. Should it be removed? No, because I have no right to dictate how others play.

If you don't want the MM to be used to block enemies, don't use it like that. If you want to play with friends, tell them you don't like that. If they continue doing it, let them, it's their choice.

I'm with you. It's frustrating hearing "man, it's just TOO EASY to make stuff! I want it to be really complicated and cumbersome as to not allow possible exploitation of the poor innocent AI mobs." Come on! If I have to deal with the odd numpty using blocks to exploit the AI, but it means I have a very effective way of building stuff, then I'll pay that price gladly!

Still wondering why ppl are bothered with how others play their games. Hows other playstyle affect you at all?

Stop trying to force your playstyle on every1. If I want to block every mob in a dirt cage, who are you to say it's bad?

If you are annoyed by the dirt blocking,... suprise. DON'T use it. Problem solved.

Because apparently every game that includes any form of multiplayer has to be transformed into competitive e-peen BS and every single friggin time somebody starts howling PVP. And I'm really getting sick of it. Terraria 1.2 got a ton of nerfs because of the "PVP Crowd" and they are already here at the gates, too. Same with Torchlight 2, along with my second favorite "gief official servers cuz haxxorz ruin my enjoyment".

The MM is great, I love that I can actually build a house without having to build 3000 scaffolds and doing aerial acrobatics to place blocks as I see them fit. I don't give a damn about anyone else whining about people cheating, or whatever dellusional thoughts they might have. This is becoming really tiring, that I see the same BS in every indie game forum. This game is not competitive, not e-peen, not esport, not e-anything. I'll never even go near any public server, because I bought a 4-pack for a reason. I want to play it with friends, and I want to have fun, not cringe at every bullshit hardcore crap that some idiot thinks of who gets a heart attack if someone builds a larger tower then he does.

If I sound harsh, it is meant to be, because I'm completely tired of this sh*t. We backed Chucklefish with money so they can make the game THEY wanted, not so we can TELL THEM WHAT THEY GAME SHOULD BE. Bugs and imbalance is one thing, but changing fundamental features just because you think someone in Guatemala might cheat is not.

All that is fine and dandy but why do you act as if "fixing" the matter manipulator would make building structures worse?

That's a false dichotomy. This thread has seen several interesting suggestions to deal with the abuse of MM in combat without hurting its legitimate uses, from "stabilization" time (proposed by me) to limiting the effectiveness of the MM in combat. These changes have the potential to leave the good aspects of MM untouched (thus not hurting players like you) and improving its interaction with the combat aspect of the game (pleasing players like me). The fact that you won't even consider it says very little about your concern for how others want to play, despite what you want us to think.

Also, it has nothing to do with "the PvP crowd". Games offering easy ways to bypass all difficulty through faulty or abusable mechanics is NOT right, this has been proven again and again, and arguing against it shows little knowledge of game design.

Good, then let's have any of the suggested fixes, as an OPTION. The suggestion of it being the norm is showing that you have just as little consideration for others then I do. I already said the same thing in the block breaking monster thread. Sure, make it an option and don't force it on anyone. You don't get to tell me how I should play, and you don't even get to tell me how you think I play, because you have no stinking clue who I am and what my playstyle is. If it's all optional, and can be configured, sure go ahead. I'm just not condoning a mandatory change to Starmeatboybound as some suggest now and then.

As for offering easy ways to bypass all difficulty, maybe you would also like the MM and other tools disabled in dungeons? So people can't build bridges over lava and buzzsaw chasms and can't tunnel under the tesla spikes? Or how about limiting them to melee weapons only for the first two sectors? Or not letting them use their teleporter in combat, to escape death? My problem with every one of these "betterments" is, where do you draw the line? How many people should the devs listen to then? Not to mention that your perception of a cheat might not be the same as others. Like the bloody coordinate system, that is being chewn out for the last two days now. Seriously, if people have no self control, then it's their fault. It is already solvable, by editing the config to give a random universe seed, but nooooooooo, you actually have to do something for that. Let's rather disable it for everyone, that'll be much better.

Personally I like the block building mechanics. Its not like im blasting through the game with ease since you can place blocks easier then other games.
All I see in making blocks more hard to place or with consequences is annoyance and lack of what was beautiful in the first place.
