Block placing feels a bit TOO fluid to me........

Combat is trivial if you make it. You know what i do. I build cover walls in flat lands and crouch behind them to snipe at monsters. That's creativity. Not making combat trivial. It's called a Sandbox game for a bloody reason.

For the record: i play Unrealworld - and I do it for fun! I aint afraid of a little challenge. I am simply against people griping about NEW things because of how they relate to OLD things. Ok, we get it - Minecraft and Terraria exist and share similarities with Starbound. Does this prevent us from enjoying the differences? No I say, let us celebrate them. Change is... GOOD!

You got a magic paintbrush, kid. So paint something amazing!

Blasphemy. He should also get all the rings from the start and end the level after just a few steps. Now that's proper gameplay.

I don't understand people. You say you don't have the time on that extremely busy schedule, yet nobody says you have to beat the game progression in any limited time frame. Take a few months if it's hard, won't hurt you. Games aren't meant to be rushed, you waited several months and hyped it, but don't have enough time to play it? Really?

You have to consider that it does diminish ones own sense of achievement when you see other players accomplishing things at a fraction of the time.

People arnt "worrying" but when their sense of progress and achievement is belittled the whole thing begins to feel pointless.

It doesnt bother me but the fact that so many other testers complain does mean that the Dev team has to at least consider the argument.

Actually ive always wanted a Sonic level like that where i could just run full speed...

but thats besides the point. Sonic wouldnt be fun if i could just as easily run past everything without consequence, just because its "fun"

I find it even more amusing that the same people who bitch about people blasting through the content also want to simplify and make the combat EASIER so they can do the exact same thing.

See that's the core of the problem, but people don't seem to grasp that. A game has to be cohesive, meaning almost the same for everyone.

    Otherwise it's just Garry's mod.

Except it's not since if you poke your head up at the wrong time you can still get sniped in one shot. Oh but wait! You people want to take that away too. If starbound ends up crashing and burning it will be because of people like you who want to morph it into something it was never meant to be

If you don't like using blocks for combat, don't do it. It's not like the game is balanced with the assumpltion that people use blocks for combat. And superjumping on blocks IMO is a very fun, and quite difficult to master fully and use fluently mechanic. I think the biggest issue with block combat atm is not that you can block mobs in, but that you can hit them though the walls.
The fluent blockplacement allows for creative and interesting ways to move and fight. Removing the element would be boring. If it's abusable vs bosses, change the bosses so that they work around the issue.

It was like this with Minecraft for me.

I spend days and weeks building something I thought was awesome, only to see that everyone else is using tools, map-editors and all sorts of out-of-game ways to create stuff.

Once I realised that I never played Minecraft again. Whats the point? nothing I make by digging for my own resources is ever going to match that of someone 'cheating'

Or do the same thing they did for the UFO. Make it SMASH ALL BLOCKS LIKE THE FRIGGIN HULK

I think block placement is perfect. The issue is that monsters get hung up on blocks and players can attack through walls with melee weapons.

Melee weapons should not go through blocks, more monsters should have block breaking abilities, not ALL blocks mind, there would have to be some consideration based on materials.
Fire attacks should burn wooden blocks, explosions should break stone, etc.

Perhaps some NPC enemies should have picks or MMs of their own?
All bosses should have block breaking attacks that can break any block (or nearly any block).

Building in Starbound is easy, therefore too should be the chance of destruction.

Disallow attacking through blocks. Problem solved. Shooting through walls already doesn't work. It's coming, don't worry.

I don't understand why this would make you stop playing Minecraft

There's nothing wrong with using map editors to build things, but if you build it by hand, it's far more impressive, IMO

Since any monster could have any kind of attack and you wouldn't know about it, I'm not sure if I'd like this idea much

No enemy should be able to be blocked in. None. Zilch. Nada. Zero.

Again, unless you are playing in single player mode and your single player character can't be used in multiplayer. Then it's fine. Do whatever you want. Give them God mode for all anyone should care.

It would be a reason to explore and learn about the planet and discover what creatures have what abilities.. This way you can upgrade your initial structures to survive against the creatures on the appropriate planet. Note that I'm not suggesting that fires spread and destroy your entire structure. That would be a bit much. But fire attacks would destroy the wood blocks that they hit.

Further a monster doesn't have reason to attack your house unless you're hiding from them in it. So while you're out exploring your stuff should be safe from mobs.

I actually like that idea quite a bit. Having to get the lay of the land before building your base is a very logical sequence.

yeah, this is pretty much the impression that I have of what direction the Devs are heading in, We're simply not there yet. The MM is a tool AND a weapon/ shield.
