I've seen that multiplayer in this game will be like in Terraria and Minecraft, where you just join a server, and you find the staff of that server. That means that you can play with more people, but that also means that you won't be able to use the staff you've made in singleplayer. That's cool if you usually play in multiplayer, but what if i'm a guy who likes to play with one or two friends, but the problem is that we can meet each other from time to time. We'd spend a lot of our time in single player then. What if we could actually join our universes through a blackhole when we wanted to play together? I'll make an example in case is not clear, I'm RoboGlith92, i usually play on my singleplayer universe, and my friend HotFish666 usually plays in his/her singleplayer universe. We can meet each other from time to time because of real life issues. One day i find out that HotFish666 is in steam, "Hiyaa you wanna join me in starbound? - Yeahsure!", so i send a invitation to HotFish666 to play starbound with me. The game ask me if i want to be a server, and allow he to enter in my universe, or (That's the suggestion part) to join HotFish666's universe with mine trough a blackhole. If i click the second one, and HotFish666 accept, then our singleplayer universes will join trough a blackhole, and i will be able to visit my friend things, or be visited. The blackhole thing could appear in the navshipHUD with a unique message for this purppose "The detector of cool things of the ship detects a big amount of energy in this point, that might be a blackhole or a nice play to dig your grave." Now i hope that with this little example is everything a little more clear. If you have any doubt, just ask it here, also, since i don't know anything about programming, i don't know how difficult is that, even if it is possible, i just think it would be cool to have it in an update of the game after release. Edited (17/09/2013 14:02): About this, i've been thinking and i know that in a minecraft community, if you have many servers, you can use a mod to make a gate that join those servers, so you don't have to log out and change the IP adress. Maybe in this case, we could make each player being the hosting guy of his own universe, that means that there's no need of the server having every single map, you just change server (and map) when going through the blackhole. Wouldn't that mean the person hosting the server would have to have both of the worlds loaded? (If you're on separate planets) (Also, I hate to be that guy, but you have a ton of spelling mistakes)
No problem for being that guy, i tried my best since i'm not an english speaker, i'm good if at least the main idea is understandable. About the hosting guy, i sincerely don't know, i don't know how server works and that stuff. I just hope it's possible, if not, well, let's forget this suggestion
You can easily start a sever and play with friends with their characters, however since everyone's universe is exactly the same you won't be able to join them together.
I'm not talking about joining them and make the one forever, i'm talking about the possibility of joining them as two separate servers trough a gate temporary. That means there is no more relation between those servers rather than the gate that join them. So i don't see your problem. Again, the idea of this is to allow players who usually will play singleplayer, to play in multiplayer with the possibility of going to my friend's map and viceversa in a more comfortable and fast way.
