I need help ;-; Today I just got the game on steam and I was really excited to play! but when I loaded it up all I saw was a black screen and I heard birds chirping in the background.. I spent hours on how to fix it until I sent a tweet @Stardew_Help my problem and replied, this is what i got I did as told and when I put the password in I got this "chown: Stardewvalley: No such file or directory" I replied back and he said that he will look over at it later since they are at PAX.. Can someone please help.. ;-; I really would like to play today.. :c
Try copying and pasting the following into the Terminal window. It's equivalent to the instructions you were given but combined into one step, with no need to change anything: sudo chown -Rv "$USER" ~/.config/StardewValley If that doesn't work perhaps there might be something helpful in the output from this command: ls -alF ~/.config
Two other things that might help if the above doesn't fix it: 1) If you still get the same "No such file or directory" error the problem might be with the ownership of the .config directory, fixable like so: sudo chown -v "$USER" ~/.config 2) Or there have been reports that deleting the startup preferences file can solve some issues: rm ~/.config/StardewValley/startup_preferences
