Bio-engineering this idea came from the fact that everyone is going to want a cute little thing for a pet so by using bio-engineering you can take the look of oh let's say a bunny but the powers of the strongest thing in the game but it will be hard to do so because you will have to get the D.N.A from the strongest thing in the game and the D.N.A from the bunny and the bunny would only get a little of the power not all at once you will have to do this many times before the bunny is as powerful as the strongest thing but you could also change the Color if you fortify that gene and if the thing had horns that would be a gene you could fortify and I had the idea there could be a special place on the space station to do this I would work like this you put the genes in and there would be three pages one for the bunny gene and one for the the other gene each of the two page's would have a list of traits you will pick the ones you want and then go to the last page and make it then you take the new D.N.A and grow it in a controlled area and get the finished creature. Hope you liked the idea vote please feel free to post and sorry about any spelling errors!!

Yes I don't know how well it would work out but yes.

Holy s**t, a stream of consciousness. Seriously, it's hard to read without interpunction, Torin. Also, if it's possible fix your poll as it allows multiple choices.

Now, for the idea itself. In theory it may be actually quite nice but now - it will require now for every creature to have a set of genes describing different stats, then a system allowing acquirement of said genes, modification of subject. Way of tracking different changes to the genome. Together with suggestion of change of different visible traits of every subject, possibly either new set of sprite for every creature with a genome or change of current sprites that they are composed of different interchangeable elements. We dont' even know if traits are hrd-coded part of different creatures or whether their setting for different crits won't need additional code as well. It will require work. And not a bit of work. A couple of months of work probably, at least to make this thing actually decent and polished.

Just so you can make stuff like stronger bunny with some trait of different creature.

Sure, you can make a terrible hack and simplify the system to allow players to just acquire some vague sample of 'genetic code' with stats of monster it was taken from and then upon combining it with different creature, said creature's stats would become an average of what they previously were and what new DNA is introducing. But then it will serve little pupose but to make slightly buffed, but otherwise the same version of some critter. Not sure it's worth it.

Now, I do confess it's a bit of speculation on my part right now as well, and I don't have an access to the Starbound's code.

It seems like you'd lose the cuteness of the bunny and end up with some strange mutated monster.
I can't be the only one thinking that.

No if you fortify the looks of the bunny then you will keep the look of the bunny
