Biggest WTF WAS THAT! Moment

this is an old thread but whatever. my most recent endeavors into "the fuck was that?" must have been me being one-shot at full health by a floran jail-guard wielding a sniper, or when the very first inmate in a prison runs up to me with a metal chair, smacks me in the face and one-shots me (again at near full health).

Well, rather he necro'ed a old thread with this theme then create a new one.

 

I actually got to see a giant meteor falling from the skies. It hit a bandit camp dead on. Poor sods didn't stood a chance.
But the blast radius almost caught me, I energy dashed away from the shockwave and managed to survive. I actually screamed "HOLY F***".

Another meteor related WTF incident was when I landed on a moon. Only to be promptly hit by a regular meteor. I literally didn't have time to move. Just beam down and BAM! Back to the ship with you...

 

I saw one fall aswell once, i was in one of the USCM penal colonie's, it certainly filled my inventory with decorative items

 

I remember playing my Munari in an older Koala build and I was chopping down my first tree on a starter planet and a meteor shower started off by the first one smacking me in the head, killing me right away. Then there was the time I made an Avali and beamed down into a pool of lava on my Avali's starter planet. So I'm actually quite okay with the current starter world being a boring, safe grasslands-style biome with no sub-biomes to worry about beaming down into.

 

I just found a single tile of natural moondust on a volcanic planet.

What does it mean? Is it a sign from the moon gods?!

 

The Moontants definitely got a bit of a squick out of me. That "Flesh Spatter" attack. Bllgh. Gives me the jibblies.

Before Upbeat Giraffe, though, I think my biggest "WTF is that" moment came from finding a bunch of cultists in an eyeball biome. It's already plenty creepy with the eyes everywhere...

and there's what look like the ruins of a Glitch village with wrecked bridges and ruined towers and stuff

but then you run into a bunch of creepy humanoid things with fleshy eyeball swords rambling and muttering about death and destruction.

That was the point at which I went "nopenopenopenopenope" and pulled out my Bone Hammer. No more nightmares!

 

My biggest crazy moment was when I missed a grapple and fell into lava. Though I've had a lot more...

 

Err, My WTF moment is that HOW THEY USE FISH BREATH ON MONSTERS? THEY SPIT OUT FISH!

 

I ran into this once too On a desert planet (monsters "spewing out fish" when they attack, aka fish breath). I was like " where did they get the fish?".

(Do note that there was no oasis biome, so there was nowhere on that world with water or fish )

 

I had one of those yesterday. I was searching for an avian airship to look for a treasure map. After flying around for what seems like hours I finally find a planet with such a ship and make my way up. While I was sniffing around in the containers it started to rain fire and before I had the chance to get to the merchant the whole thing was aflame and with it went my chance to buy anything at all.

Really uncalled-for that one.

 

I jumped off the Outpost and tried to grapple on. I missed. Scariest five seconds of my life.

 

Uuh, what happened? I heard of someone whose game bugged out after that and he couldn't beam down again - I hope you simply died (that sounds strange).


My WTF moment was yesterday when I encountered a cyclopic bug-eyed monster which then began to shoot lasers out of its one eye. Not a huge thing, but I had *no* idea there were mobs with such an attack.
Very strange.

 

I accidentally spawned my boat, and when I hit the bottom I just sat there. I couldn't move, die, or beam up, so I just hit save and quit and respawned.

 

Hm. Impressive spaceboat!

 

I was digging in a cave on my third character ever. This was before, when gravel had ores. I saw some gravel on the ceiling to my right, above a huge chasm... I figured I would mine some of the gravel to see it fall, and get some ores in the process.

Lo and behold, the gravel came tumbling down... and a gigantic lake of poison with it. It was beautiful.

 

One that happened last night as a result of using the Prismatic Stars mod. I happened upon a hollow prism planet and beamed down, finding some very nice random guns and eventually went down into this vast open area, the hollowed out part of the biome. I had to go pretty deep for it, like being unable to teleport deep. I began walking across across the ground of the massive cave when I saw some poison water pour down, over and over and then it hit me, a sub-biome of the prismatic planet was a poisonous ocean. I panicked and actually screamed out, "Not hollow, not hollow!" The endless wall of poison kept getting bigger and didn't get to me purely because I was using my matter manipulator to collect it. I had to save+quit out because I didn't have enough bandages as I was swimming to the top and poisoned.
