What are some of the biggest screw ups you made while playing Stardew Valley?

    Here are some of mine.

First save file, didn’t know the mines opened on spring 5th. Spent my entire first year with my starter tools and no way to make sprinklers, making me have to water everything every day, depleting my energy like crazy.

Didn’t know about the secret woods for nearly 2 years, missed out on a ton of hardwood.

Ran around gifting random junk to everyone, stuff like pinecones, shells, and whatever else I could spare mostly disliked and hated gifts, not realizing I was making them angrier and angrier with each “gift” I gave them.

Accidentally pickaxed my one and only ancient fruit plant and didn’t find another ancient seed for another 2 years.

Accidentally threw away “Legend” when I was trying to throw away some algae. Nearly beat my skull into dust against the wall.

Those are all the big screw ups I can remember doing.

    What about all of you?

I thought that I had never found a dino egg, but I was looking at the museum a little while ago and realized that I had donated it not knowing what it was or that I could incubate it. Never found another one and I'm in year 6.

Planted so much grass starter on the green parts of the forest map, not realizing that they wouldn't spread.

Just like you, I pickaxed one or two rare and valuable crops. I also planted one of them the day before winter by accident. Wish we had an uprooting tool.

Planted my first fruit trees willy-nilly and ended up having to axe them after a couple of years of increasing quality fruits because I couldn't stand the placement anymore.

Clicked on a mine ladder a millisecond before noticing that I missed something really good on that level. Many a time.

ETA: Made a bunch of the lowest quality sprinklers and ended up hating them so much that I went back to the watering can. That's a lot of resources in early game.

This game is forgiving of mistakes. I haven't made any major screw ups besides planting like 50 crops too late into the season...

Blowing most of my cash by thinking that a season lasted 31 days and spending all my money on seeds that would just wither.

No major screw ups but I did throw away the painting you get as a reward from Gunther thinking I could just get it again from the furniture catalog. Turns out you can't. :/

Edit: Came back to add, I've done the fruit tree thing too. Planted them in one spot, wanted to change the farm layout later so I had to chop them down. I think I did that two or three times in my first save.

I have thought many times that I could and should buy a new building at Robin's shop. But when I went there I had to realise that my old nemesis had struck again: aerobic tuesday D:

On my orchard farm I axed all ~120 fruit trees in winter year two because I wasn't satisfied with their placing and the sheds had to be replaced. It wasn't a major screw up because I had the money to afford even more trees by then.

Accidentally closed the game window and lost all my progress for an entire day (this has happened more than once).

Planted my first fruit tree (which cost a lot for me at the time), storm rolled around less than 3 days later, thought lightening fried it, proceeded to chop it down. Turned out it very likely wasn't burned and discovered too late that even if it was, fruit trees always return to normal after being hit with lightening anyway....

I mean, none of this is too bad but it certainly made me wanna smack myself in the face when they happened.

My first few save files were noting but comedy of errors. The big ones included chucking my extra ancient seeds into the rubbish , not realizing the secret woods existed and when I literally did stumble into them, I didn't realize there were 2 more stumps hiding down in the bottom.

In my last save file, for the first time in quite a long time, I was not able to complete the Greenhouse by the end of fall year1. I still needed the wool or large goat milk. Normally I get wool from my rabbit as soon as it matures. Later on I still needed the rabbit foot to complete the CC because of the Rabbit Foot. I went down to the coop to see what was going on. Once in the coop I realized what was wrong. I never purchased the bloody rabbit.

Good lord I need to stop chucking things in the trash so much. I threw away my furniture catalog earlier. I'd just finished decorating a spot in my house and was discarding the little desks and other random bits I ended up not using and out went the furniture catalog right along with the rest of it. *sigh*

Good thing I'm sitting on over 1 million gold and buying it back won't be a big deal.

I accidentally turned the Legend fish into sashimi.

Mistook a stack of poppies for tulips and couldn't understand why everyone I gave them to hated them.

I did so many things wrong with animals in my first file. Got rid of all the grass, even though I didn't really need the space, wasted a bunch of money on hay because I didn't have enough grass, was too lazy to build mayonnaise machines and missed out on a lot of money, etc. There's also an egg stuck in my incubator since nothing stops you from putting one in even if your coop's full, but at least there's no real harm in that.

I'm also too lazy to get a second silo, and of course whenever my hay runs out in winter, it's always on a day Marnie's shop is closed.

After finding my first prismatic shard I also ended up dying, so of course I lost it, and haven't found one since.

Also died right after finding the Obsidian Edge, and ended up losing that, too.

That happened to me recently. What I did was go buy grass starters from Pierre and planted them in the coop (yes, you can do this even in winter), the grass won't spread and the animals won't eat it but you *can* still cut it and get hay. It's a really useful, slightly more expensive route to getting your animals fed in that situation.
You also don't really need more than one silo, once the one you have is full just pull all the hay out from the hopper inside a barn or coop and load it into a chest. Repeat the process until you have the amount you want. :)

Yes! That is my whole life as well, lol. So many times, I had no idea how long it was since they ate.

I'm going to build four silos on my truffle farm. I don't even care how inefficient that is compared to refilling one silo from stacks in a chest. I am way too lazy to check how much is left.

Back on my first ever save when I was learning. A mistake that haunted me for a while was donating the Prismastic Shard instead of getting the galaxy sword. I spent a lot of time trying to find another one.

A recent issue on a modded file, I had mega bombs with me. I use the mouse scroll wheel to go between items. Without noticing I scrolled to the mega bomb, accidently clicked. Boom goes a ton of sweet gem berries. Granted it is a modded file, so I could spawn the seeds in again. Just sucked to waste 2 in game weeks from this mishap.

First save, I spent all my money on 400 cranberry seeds and i had to do the watering from morning to midnight for a whole season, with starter tools. No time to do anything else, almost killed the game for me.

                                          Giant Octopodes Industrial Terraformer

That's actually a mid game strategy for me. In year 2 / 3 I will typically plant a whole field of the cheapest possible crops just before the end of the season. Dead crops prevent debris from spawning and the field from needing hoeing and clearing them with a scythe is a *lot* faster than redoing your field. Of course planting a ton of expensive crops hurts a ton just thought I'd throw or that tip :)

                                          Biggest mistakes i made were:

                                          - unlocked the greenhouse in winter but had not bought / saved any seeds for it in my first playthrough. It was nearly 3 months before I had good, highly profitable, sustainable crops in it as a result.

                                          - made like 7 deluxe barns in that same playthrough but only had one space between them. Once they were full of pigs they would find truffles and block the paths so I was getting maybe 20 truffles per day from my million dollar plus investment, and this was before buildings could be moved.

                                          - like many others planted a whole forest including 12 fruit trees only to realize later it needed to be 1 tile over so had to destroy it all and start again.

                                          - did so just before winter not realizing non- fruit trees produce syrup in winter if grown but do not grow in winter, lost a season of production from them needlessly as a result.

                                          - donated my first prismatic shard, it was months before I found another and could make the galaxy sword.

And finally, EVERY TIME, went to Robins to build something, realized only after I was there I forgot to bring the materials to build it. Its my own fault, every time I think "I should really just put a chest in here and keep the materials in there", and somehow that never happens.
