The ship is roughly the size of a semi-truck with it's trailer attached, I'd hardly call that massive.

okay. experience. you start out making simple shit out of wood stone.

after you upgrade your table from plain wood to a robotic one that has freaking arms and is capable of welding and you've spent the ENTIRE game building things, it hardly stretches the imagination that you can figure out a basic drill at that point

again i understand your points but the hyperbole is unnecessary and i think detracts from your point. he's a dragon king. maybe his bone dust is super conductive. maybe the jelly contains reactive chemicals. maybe it's magic because it's a freaking undead dragon.

as for the internet argument... i mean, really? no, of course there's no internet, you learn everything in the game via books and half the races are tribal. if you had the internet why would you build a distress beacon?

    Yes, there is.

We've said the reason seven or eight times now.

Because the game is better for it, and because the Codex for each race explains it.

"There's no reason" does NOT erase the reason.

So, the game is "better" for offering the silliest, limpest pseudo-reason ever of... what? They left in a hurry and forgot to pack any technology whatsoever, and were sent to the stone age until their magical anvil discovers it, itself. Got it. Thanks, Kilo, for explaining that so well! And for explaining why the game is so much better BECAUSE of that! Ugh, I was just trying to present another side to a clearly-one-sided and blind argument. Now I'm just getting annoyed.

At least Whipping Post has something to offer to the conversation. And Whipping Post, I understand what you're saying. Maybe I was being too sarcastic. But don't we all ALWAYS try to make sense of our video games? I think in Grand Theft Auto V, if the main cast all of a sudden got the ability to spit lava from his mouth, people would be left scratching their heads.

Saints Row IV, on the other hand, at least made a valiant attempt at why the protagonist is able to fly! It's a SIMULATION! Explain it away, I don't care, the only point I was trying to make was: Some people want things to make sense. In my opinion, things don't currently make any sort of logical or even scifi kind of sense. That's all.

im trying to see what hes talking about..
hes complaining that the starting weapons are crappy?
isnt that like a rule with every videogame
    to have shitty starting weapons
(besides metroid prime but you lose all that stuff at the start anyways so it doent matter)

Actually, based on lore most of the races did likely leave in a hurry (the player that is), and the ship they took didn't have any advanced tech on it aside from the stuff that was already on it. You also don't go back to the stone age, as the player isn't stuck using caves as shelter along with sharping rocks with other rocks/not being able to really speak or understand any other race.

And to be honest, the example of the main cast just randomly being able to spit lava doesn't really relate well to starting off with mostly no tech. For one they would be randomly getting that ability, while in starbound it would be starting straight from the beginning, not randomly happening near the middle. And there is logical sense in not knowing how to make more advanced things right off the bat also.

For example, lets take the US for instance. Being a first world country it has access to many technological things the people most likely take for granted. Would it make logical sense that they know how to build a car even if they haven't read anything or taken any courses on it? No, as with starbound the player/person has to learn on the subject to be able to make that thing. In starbounds case, you have to get beat bosses fore things that allow you to increase to the next tier (which can be inferred as getting something from the boss that gives you the knowledge to make newer more advanced things).

See, the issue isn't that the game sucks.
The issue is that you suck.
