[quote="TeoTheDriller, post: 51169, member: 2570"... and make the whole thing a mess: supposing that each ship has an artificial generator, a Ship Graveyard has multiple different ways to explode, implode or break with the press of a button.[/quote]

That'd be fun. Maybe have a "higgs-field equalizer" (or whatever) item to even it out. Have a section where the generator is on the fritz, and the gravitational stregth can change from moment to moment.

I'd like to butt in and give my two cents' worth.

    Lose the gravity.

No, I'm serious. If there's even a chance to get derelict space rubble, I'd rather just have a sortie that starts out inside the ship or station next to a blowtorched access point or an airlock that directly connects to your own ship. If I get to rummage around that kind of spooky atmosphere then just make some crap up about magneto boots or something, as long as I get to explore the damn thing like I'm Samus Aran and there's a brainsucker right around the next corner about to rip its containment unit in half to get at me.

I know some people here have played Metroid-games, and some have probably played Metroid Fusion at some point. That's as derelict a space station right there as can be and spooky as hell. That thing had gravity and no one complained. Yes, I know that it had minimal power on at all times, but that's just as long a shot as just throwing the whole thing out the window for the sake of a rich experience that such an environment could provide.

With all that said, I would love to have weightlessness inside an abandoned construction, but I'd much rather just have a rich experience of fear in the unknown. :D

If i have to choose, i go towards Luihu proposal, but in the long run, i believe the variety in game would gain a lot with procedural generation of various effects inside the derelicts... lots of fear variety! o/

I kinda like the idea of this... though this leads me to my biggest issue- spacefaring. From what I gather, we won't actually be in space. We'll just be on the planets. Or in our space station. I personally want to see some attempt made at limited interstellar exploration- even if the game is made of chunks of space with only a few planets.

This problem can be somewhat solved including coordinates to random/pregenerated things in space, but hten you have to consider what happens when someone gets threw outside the space ship, or ship hulk... by the way, the planets will have a "ceiling"? We will just hit an invisible ceiling or die as the game says we "go aimlessly through space"?

So much space, need to see it all, eh? (SPAAAAAAACE)

I don't really get what you mean. What do you actually want to see or do? You mean actual traveling with the ship or taking a walk outside the ship through an airlock?

I mean flying my spaceship. Through space. And maybe crashing because I'm an inept pilot. I want that.

    Agreed, I love that.

But the most important part for me is being able to traverse inside your own ship and/or space station. There's been far too few games that actually let a sci-fi-nut walk around the interior of your home away from home.

    Mass Effect-style. FTW.

I guess in larger ships there could be labs (to steal tech from), Escape pods which you can steal, cargo holds, engine rooms, crew cabins filled with NPC's(hostile and friendly) and space slime :alien:. The same could also apply to space stations except you could also steal solar panels and space shuttles (obviously the latter would be very rare).

:raccoon:Sounds awesome, could there be aliens running around trying to kill you?

    also we need astroid fields.:raccoon:

I'll give my vote to that only if the aliens are not a specific race that's seemingly hostile towards the player. I hate it when there's some specific intelligent race in games that's "brutal" and "savage" that will attack the player on sight and cannot be reasoned with. Intelligent and dangerous individuals are more intimidating anyway.

SPACE PIRATES. THAT'S fucking GOLD, that is!

And yes, asteroid fields. Must have.

But i want to be in a giant space station barely work with flashing lights and such...

Graveyards could have scavengers other than you in them, not necessarily of your race. Some space pirates would be a given, perhaps a colony of them?

Better yet, the occasonal one inhabited by, 'It.' 'It,' of course, being the big scary viral monster race, e.g. the Necromorphs and the Flood.

    Luihu Subatomic Cosmonaut

Oh, bleh. If there's going to be a specific race that's a huge threat or something then it'd better be some kind of ancient and massive force that's.. actually that's ridiculous too since it's unfeasible to fight something like that with just one base and a space station glued together from matchsticks.

It just reeks of black and white that "you good, they evil, go kill" is enough for an entire 'It' to be a menace.

LIKE THE FLOOD. Even the 'bad' guys are in danger. It would be chaotic neutral.

I'd love to see some ship-graveyard action. You'd need to get some sort of jetpack-like device before you go exploring them or something. You could find old machines that were programmed to defend their ship that could have gone wrong and killed all the crew that were still defending it? They'd sound fun for salvaging things.

I also think the massive stations would be awesome as well. Maybe even some ballin' space pirates could use some as their home base? They'd be fun to trade with, but if you attack them, all hell would break loose. Yeah, that'd be fun :giggle:

I really love this idea. It would be nice to have something to encounter in space as you travel besides other ships.

Salvaging off of old ships would be very fun indeed :p
