Ok, I know the title isn't that inviting and that textures is not everything but there is something I realized not too long ago. I was simply messing around with the character creator and then, after getting the perfect character, I downloaded it. Seing the picture on my desktop I found it was pretty big compared to sprites that were the same heigt in pixels (of the character). I opened it in photoshop and realized that the "pixels" of the body were actually 9 pixels squares! After some time, I drew a more high definition version of the caracter (some colors aren't the same, especially the eyes so don't stop on that please) This is the normal version: This is the medified "HD" version (againt some colors and the eyes aren't the same): Little difference? Yes. Before you even think about writing a message, I know the character creator might not be in the definition of the final game but after looking at the wonderful background images, I thought this was actually possible. Takes 10 minutes to get from the normal version to the higher definition version. Any comments?
WoxandWarf pointed exactly where I was going to point, your best bet is either implementing that simple filter, or waiting for custom texture packs on release. Think a filter would be enough though, since your problem seems to be the pixelation, not the textures themselves.
If the game would be made to have better graphics, I wouldn't want smoothed-out original sprites as they would just look weird but proper hi-res sprites made in style that would properly utilize new possibilities. The OPs guy sprite for example. In it's current, low res version he looks just like a dude in a sweater vest, the upgraded version - when compared to the rest of the modified image - makes the vest look more like it made the guy develop a pair sizeable and somewhat saggy breasts which thing is a bit disturbing when combined with his tiny, tiny eyes (which on their own aren't as problematic as in original sprite they're just symbolically marked by single pixel).
What are those "man this is so ugly that I want to die" comments? As I said, I'm just pointing out something, you don't have to rage or anything.
No one is raging, I believe. You point out something, suggest filter for hi-res graphics and argument it's a good thing as per your example. People consider said example and find it actually subpar to original image, sharing their conclusions as requested. Everything's in order, I'd say.
I think the textures would just be okay as they are. But they should be included as an option or a least a mod will be mode for it.
Well, just like in the original thread for this suggestion, let's settle on if it's going to be added it's going to be post-release due to the time it would take and also be optional, since a ton of people really like the original art style.
I realized that... Anyways, still thinking it would be a nice option to have "better" graphics... I don't have a problem with the original design at all. The thing is, you don't have to change the resolution to get better graphics. That said, you could lower the resolution to get faster graphics since 8 pixels on 9 in the sprite is useless...
Well then, I prefer the Pixel version. I could understand why you want an HD version, but then it would feel akward seeing everything already in a Pixel version.
its an indie game, its sopost to be pixely what do you think this is? an AAA game (this is a joke comment before anyone flips)
