The name gen for systems at the moment really is awful. I get things like 'Beta Indie' and 'Majoris Horsebutt' A generator for star system names would be nice, combining Latin and Greek or other ancient word parts, along with just random (but pleasant) sci-fi-sounding syllables, and from there adding it's prefix for the constellation/cluster (Nu Ithyevius, Alpha Phosebe) or maybe a number designation (901423 Bokt-Nassar) I personally think that planets should have unique names also, and from there their moons will be given numbers (Planet Tarketis has moons Tarketis I, Tarketis II, Tarketis III, etc.) Another minor issue is the 'Alpha Beta Gamme...' system is a bit strange and confusing, since real stars aren't named that way. They're usually named in constellation clusters (ex. constellation Indie would contain Alpha Indie and Beta Indie based on their prominence) Sectors could instead be named according their relation to the galactic core (Quadrant I, Quadrant II, Quadrant III, Quadrant IV, and finally Galactic Centre). But sector re-naming isn't nearly as imperative as the dreadful system and planet names. EDIT: you know what would be cool too? Re-naming in-game your Homeworld and Homestar.
i agree it'd be really neat to be able to "re-name" your planets or what have you, but I also like the randomization that it currently has. It'd be neat to have like a journal or something on screen on planet select so you could re-name it, with the actual name as well, and a spot for notes. Like Majoris Horsebutt - "Planet Piss" - "Good supply of coal, apex towns, jerk animals look like zoidberg" or something of that nature.
