Beta Testers.....

This has been later clarified as active members of the "Community" (I think at least..) , though it is prob best not to wild lecture since it is only one line. One can only hope for the best, and see how this works out.. To say hey come check us out now, is more good advertising then prob what is actually going to pertain to the Beta Selection

This is very true, but if you can see it, and others can see it.. Then they can prob see it too. Either way, the game will eventually come out for everyone, and despite those who may think it is best to get "Early Access" that is when the community and information is really going to get interesting.

Sometime it is just best not to worrying about the beta selection, and others trying to "Betawant" their way in, it serves no real purpose. Wait to see if there is more information, and just be part of the community. If you are right for it then hey maybe it will work out. If not then at least you are a contributing part of the community, and when the game comes out for everyone then ya got people to play with!

This is kinda a Scorched Earth way of looking at things. Sure there might be leaks, and sure there might be people who don't report bugs, or try to put out spoilers of the game. But a simple truth is if the game is really good, then this will not ruin the game. If you try to punish people by taking things away because there is a chance something might happen, then very little would happen..

It may or may not be Millions, that is besides the point.. I think the point was there are going to be *A Lot* of people playing this game at one time, and most of them are going to complain about the bugs if they are not found in the Beta. (Though I disagree that "All" of them need to be gone.. This is what patches are for, as long as they are actively patching these problems that is all they "Must" do.)

 

There will be one! It has been announced by Tiy! And for the people that say there will be leaks. There will possibly be leaks but think of it this way, If Apple didn't have Beta testers for the Iphone 4S Would it be here now? ( Yes they have phone Beta testers my friends dad was one xD)

Love it, one of the most fun things to do, finding the game-breaking bugs for the devs and getting a pet on the head.

That doesn't necessarily mean there will be one as it says "IF/when".

I'm aware of that, but as Tiy said on his Twitter "If/When we choose beta testers...", the "if" part goes against what the FAQ (written before the Tweet) says.

I didn't say that's what it meant - it means that there is the possibility that there will be a beta, but there's also the possibility that there won't be. Time will tell for sure.

 

This is going to be such a fun game. I can feel it in my atoms.

 

I want to support this game in whatever way I can, voice acting, community member, ideas, advertisement, money up front before it comes out... anything I can do! I can tell this game is going to be a bestseller!

PS: I do hope i can pay for this game up front, I really do want to do that and I will given the chance! I normally do not do this for any game but Starbound has caught my heart and it's not letting go.

 

I personally think that there should be a beta, and I for one would desperately love to be a beta tester. However, if it would postpone the release date of the game by more than a few weeks, then I would have to say that I would rather have everyone play the game sooner, rather than there being a beta test.

 

I think beta testing should be for people who not only want to play but to test it and find the bugs therefore making the whole game better in the end. They should also be on different OS's. That is just my thoughts though and what I would do if I got beta if it were to be like that.

I definately want to join the beta because i am always the guy you gets swarmed by bugs on anything

 

From a business standpoint, it's in the developers' best interest to keep the beta exclusive to people who have payed for the game in advance and/or to the most trusted or well known members of the community. I highly doubt the developers want people to be playing their game for free, and I may be wrong but I really don't think this is the type of game to have an open beta.

 

You do have a good point. But just because there playing beta doesn't mean that they'll own the game forever. The testing can be useful to find bugs as stated by others and myself. The testers also would be only a few people not every last person wanting to be a tester.

 

Obviously, I'd love to play the beta, but if I can't, that's fine too.
What I'd really like to see are people like Pedguin and Yrimir play the beta, and sort of get a feel for the game before I buy it.
