Beta Roadmap

Starbound's Facebook page has just shared the following:

"Hey guys! So we've been busy busy busy with development recently, getting in crop-farming, the ability to paint blocks, working on moon planets, and so on!

We're going to try and work out a "beta roadmap" type of thing to outline what needs to happen before we're ready for a beta in order to bring you more frequent updates and be more transparent in our development process! So look for that soon."


A Beta Roadmap sounds quite interesting. Looks like we'll also be able to keep up with the progress before the actual Beta is released. Nice going.

and i read this the second it came out on the FB page, though i think it's still awesome to read again

 

Yes I can vouch for this, I saw this a couple days ago I believe, I'm super exited for this roadmap! Will give us a great taste of the game to tide us over until beta.

 

They've been talking about the idea of a development roadmap for some time now. I hope we can see it soon.

 

Such roadmap system is quite interesting. I haven't really seen anything like it before and I have to say that it is quite thrilling to be made part of Starbound's development. Not all companies act in such way. Thumbs up to them.

 

I also saw that off of Facebook. Can't wait to play.

 

The thing I wonder about will be how specific it is -- is it going to refer to every system that they're gonna try and put up? Or just major gameplay features?

Whichever way it goes, I'm very pleased. Happeh.

 

Sounds like a great way to release their info and ideas.

 

I would prefer a beta of Starbound as there are already several companies like Rand McNally who already have fully developed high quality roadmaps.

On a more serious note a roadmap to tell us what the developers are working on would give us a glimpse of their progress and a bit of a hint as to how much time is left in development. So yea I'm all for it

 

I think I've seen a beta roadmap before with SWGEMU a couple of years back (SWGEMU = Star Wars Galaxies Emulator). They updated on a fairly regular basis what was added, what bugs were fixed, and approximations on how much longer until the game was ready to go. Unfortunately I don't think they ever quite got to the point where the game was finished and I remember reading something about a massive rewrite of all the code that was written and then I kind of lost my patience with the thing and left That was years ago and I think they're still working on it.

But to the point I was trying to make It was really cool to see so much transparency in action. It's a great way to bring a community together, give em something to talk about and hype them up a bit. All in all, I can't wait to see what they have in store

 

Hmm, I've got mixed feelings about this... On the first read I thought: "AWESOME, now we know what has been done and still has to be done...". There wouldn't be any necessity to work on a roadmap like that if it didn't mean that they have still A LOT to do before the beta will be released! I mean I'm the type that will not even play the beta most likely because I want to enjoy the full experience! But still, the delay of the beta also delays the release of the game naturally!
PS: I could be entirely wrong about this!

Yes, they've been talking about this on the IRC for the past few days. Sounds pretty neat.

 

Wow, a beta roadmap would be really cool. I can't wait for the beta.

 

Though if they make a complete roadmap for the game release. The beta could still be around the corner. But as you say it can close and very faar away.

 

Thanks for posting Keeper. I'm glad they put up something on the Facebook page instead of just talking about this on IRC. However, still seems odd that this update is apparently unworthy for the front page of their own site!

Well, I wish to them to start the roadmap soon. And when they start, I wish they put it on frontpage. I think the roadmap itself is important enought to put on frontpage. I suppose.
Also, thanks for posting it on forum, Keeper. I'm not following starbound on FB, so I realized about the roadmap thanks to you.

 

I would really like to check out this Beta Roadmap whenever it comes out to check it's progress. I also agree that it should be in the front page.

 

So then they plan to do an open beta?

If any admins/devs see this, are we looking at a Steam-released beta in the near future? I'd love to throw my money at you for the opportunity to play.
