I ran some searches and haven't gotten anything back regarding these questions but I was wondering if we know any of the following:

    1. Do we think that they will first do a closed and then open beta, or just an open?
    2. Do we know if multiplayer is going to require something like himachi? Will we be required to manipulate port forwarding?
    3. It seems like the devs seem to be doing quite a bit of their own bug squashing. Do the people that are wanting a beta release so quickly actually want to QA the game, or are they just wanting to play.
    4. Given an open beta is released, does that mean that people can start reviewing and posting "Let's play" videos without the consent of the devs?
    5. At what point can we expect any kind of modding API? Are we going to be able to release mods at release?

1.I don't know maybe closed then open but a vary short closed beta
2.likely you could do one of the two
3.(I understand it now:) )people want to play the damn game most don't give a damn about testing
I am going to play the game and have a text document open so I can right any bugs or over/underpowered feature
    do a bit of both:up:
4.they said you can do lets plays reviews etc they don't own the vids
5.who cares people will mod it anyways

    I know tons of these:
    1. Only Closed to people who Pre-Ordered (However at this time, they have a closed Beta for family members and friends)
    2. Multiplayer can be used with Hamachi, however they're trying to make it so anyone can host without needing port-forwarding/programs
    3. 90% of them just want to play the game and not Beta-Test
    4. Yes, they have posted that anyone can make videos with Starbound and will not get any copyright problems
    5. After release we will get Modding API, but very close after so people can start modding

    Hope that helps.

    1. I think they actually have an extremely closed beta going on right now, with a sample size probably smaller than 10. I forget where I heard this, however.
    2. I'd imagine both would work. Who knows? Maybe we won't even need that.
    3. There are some people actually looking to give feedback and squash bugs.
    4. I'd imagine, but I don't really know.
    5. They're doing a fair bit of extra work to make modding easy, so I'd say it'd be shortly post-release at the latest.

Well then, he shouldn't have named his thread "Beta release thread" then. It's darned misleading.

    1. As far as I know, the game is currently in closed-alpha, limiting to only friends and family members of the dev team. The beta will be open, however, there were some discussion on whether youtubers might be able to get an early released as to promote the game ( this isn't confirmed yet ) .
    2. I'm honestly not sure about this one. People have speculated it to be similar to minecraft / terraria style, where you have to port-forward / hamachi.
    3. Only the story won't be included in, as well as a few other features ( I recall someone saying that Novakids will be on Release but not in Beta )
    4. The devs have granted permission to monetize videos that make us of Starbound content.

    1. Hopefully just an open beta for those who pre-ordered.
    2. As far as I am aware they're taking advantage of steam and therfor you shouldn't need hamachi or port forwarding.
    3. Most just want to play the game but some want to test.
    4. Anyone can make videos, they have it on their FAQ page.
    5. We are getting post-release modding api and hopefully it will be integrated with the steam community.

Beta release questions. He isn't specifically talking about the release of the beta, but about the beta itself.

Please don't tell me you posted before actually reading the post.

You are correct. Sorry about that. the title was a bit misleading - not intended. :(

    There you go Mr. Borderland.

I skimmed through the post, but that is as good as not reading the post at all. Anything else?

But on a more serious note:

    1. The beta will most likely be closed to people who have pre-ordered. It's sorta like an open beta, what with the number of people present.
    2. No clue.
    3. Most people who pledge to beta test the game probably just want to play it. I heard that beta testing involves holding an object, and falling down a ledge, then repeating that for all the holdable items in the game.
4.I don't think The Chuckling Fish is going to begrudge people playing their game. Maybe. I hope.
    5. I think modding API is planned, but Tiy has demonstrated that basic modding can be done by a lot of people, without the use of modding API. Minecraft showed that pretty well. Do minecraft have a modding API yet? I feel like they don't, but I could be wrong.

  15. Open for anyone who pre-orders. There's a family-and-friends closed beta going on currently.
Nothing ever really "requires" Hamachi, people are just lazy (or don't have access to their routers to port-forward). :p That said, it's supposed to be easy ("auto port-forwarding" I think kyren described it as).
That depends if they understand what a beta is supposed to be. ;)
Yes, provided you follow what it says on the FAQ page.
Post-release. "Data mods" will be possible right away (as demonstrated by molly in the sticky in the FAQ forum on Object Implementation).
