Donseluke: But we do know what common practice is. You know video game industry being established for how long now? The process of gave development is not exactly a secret either. Never mind the several books, articles, courses, and papers written on video game dev alone. Yeah I think we have a pretty good idea of what common practice is. Judging form the article and the cited sources certainly sounds like we have a very good idea what common practice is.

Speaking of Tiers where did that explanation of the tiers wander off to? My search fu on the forum is weak tonight.

Yup, and every company follows that as if its the ark of the covenant. Certainly there is no way where any situation could steer them away from that course at any time whatsoever to do things their own way.

Donsluke:No one said inviolable or no variation at all, now did they. Your going to have to try a bit harder and with a better argument. I believe the term is Common Practice. As in frequently followed, practiced, or executed. Which many companies of the industry do just that. Those books, papers, interviews, and other items on the subject matter are based on it. The end point though is effectively the vast majority of all game devs, publishers, and consumers do not share your opinions or standards. The vast majority of games are considered complete by standards commonly followed by the industry and accepted by the consumer base. Both can be openly seen. All my points still stand.

Before I forget. You wouldn't happen to know where the thread or post that detailed the tiers was called or was it just something with Tiers in the title?

All tiers doesn't mean all features. Things like fossils, novakids, ship battles, won't appear for the beta. But they aren't tier features. All the tiers can be finished and there still be missing features.

And when did they say they wanted it feature complete? Can you provide a link? I think that will change most people's guesstimates as to a date for the beta.

Oh no, all that stuff that was for the stretch goals will happen after beta.

And hang on, i will see if i can fetch that link for you.

First off, none of anything that you got off topic for proved anything about a complete game existing, so its pointless to continue the discussion when common practice really stopped being common seven years ago. An article thats cited from a small handful of guys and three ANCIENT half assed blogs about 30 times only proves that it was common practice in 2004 and reiterated that 2004 was the year they did everything in the wikipedia in 2010.

Everything you have said and mentioned has still not debunked my bulkhead argument about complete games.

So really everything you cited, and went through the effort to prove is only your assumption the game is complete after a developer has abandoned the title for a new one.

As for the link on the tiers, it was an earlier update.. around 4-ish months ago. I'm sure you can find it since you have amazing search fu.

Here i'll make it easy, it was a tiy update.

Don: I hate to break it to you it still common practice today and it was common practice before those articles. You know why it is common practice? Because it works fairly well. Ooh ancient going right for exaggeration because you don't actually have anything worthwhile to say. There are more recent articles which point to the same thing. Your "bulkhead argument" was never supported to begin with. It is still just your opinion and not a matter of fact. The fact is the industry and its very large customer base thinks and works differently then you or your standards.

Again all of this is not exactly a big secret and people who work in the industry have given out the details repeatedly. Namely because people keep asking what is it like to work in the industry and writers keep writing about it.

A Tiy update about fourth months ago. That actually helps. The Forum search on Tier just brought up 2 pages mostly on reward tiers and mention of Dev Tiers in a chat by Tiy. I could have sworn though a month or two back there was a specific thread that touched on it rather then an update. I can't remember the author or title. Of course I could be thinking of a different thread that mentioned the tiers in more detail as well.

Okay, first off, that's a sexist joke and is only supposed to work on women.

Secondly, that's a sexist joke and I deplore the use of such a stupid, overly used, internet insult.

Thirdly, that's a sexist joke. Wtf, man?

Yeah. From how he said, and because we have a working demo, I *want* to say that we will have beta within a month...but I said that last month...and a few months before that...so yeah. We will see how it goes, lol.

Worthwhile to say? Are you not reading posts all the way through? Things have changed, technology changes on a weekly basis and what passes for common practice changes on a whim too, all that is great for huge video game companies and they follow that to a degree, but some companies are too big to fail to treat that like its the holy grail of game industry. Hence Diablo 3.

You still haven't proven that complete games exist. Instead you went totally off topic with a barely relevant quotation of an overly analyzed and partially fictitious indulgence of a wikipedia article.

"What was fact 2000 years ago is likely not fact today."

Can we all just agree on a december 31st release date and be on our way? They're still doing tier 2 stuff, I think we've a ways till beta. v_v

Plus, the game would be much better at beta's start (so i'd be able to play a better version before my addiction wears off) if it was released as late as possible. So I'm cheering for December 31st!

December 31st! December 31st! Decemb *shot*

Actually if what omni said hasn't changed when it comes to beta at completion of tier three you can expect it in the next couple months. :p

    maybe.

If not, december 31st by all means.
