Well hiring them now or even earlier could have still solved this problem, so your post really changes nothing. Considering its what every other company does when they bite off more than they could chew. And a few weeks to train a new batch, to get triple the stuff done faster is personally a small price to pay.

    Again, money talks.

I mostly agree. Clearly Starbound is its own animal, and quite a complex one at that, but other games, such as Stardrive and Kenshi, have taken a similar approach. With Stardrive, the basic beta was complete before help was hired, with Kenshi, the fellow seems to keep hiring on people as he believes he needs them/they become necessary.

I agree completely with Donseluke that if the problem is a lack of devs/coders etc., more should be hired. However, where I think I diverge from Donseluke is that I am of the opinion that what Starbound really needs is a full-time and fully empowered and informed Public Relations official. And honestly, I think one would do the trick (And I understand Molly is the community manager, but 1) That's not her only job, and 2) That means she isn't managing the message coming from the team but the community).

Here's my justification for this. Right now, we really don't know what many of us want to know, there is a great deal of confusion on these forums, and it is giving rise to ever increasing degrees of animosity. Moreover, the Chucklefish team does not seem to be on the same page, with Bartwe making comments that both confuse (pre-Alpha), and irritate (his twitter comment regarding brand-new fans vs. the forums) the community. Tiy, while unquestionably friendly and well-meaning, is left to offer supposition over Bartwe's comments, and if Tiy is the authority on the game's progress, this is undermined by such mixed-messaging.

If they were to hire a person whose job was to communicate and consult with the team, come to understand where the game is progress-wise, and then communicate the official stance both back to the team and to the community (in regards to the community this could be as vague or as specific as needed but having an official voice explain in as detailed a way as possible WHY the game is where it is and where it needs to go to get to point X would nonetheless be helpful) this would mitigate the kind of problems we're experiencing.

If this person sat down with Bartwe and said "Okay, I know you're not confident that our current build can be classified as pre-beta, that's fine. However, our official line is that it is actually pre-beta. So if this question comes up, you can refer the question to me, follow the official line, or state that the game is progressing very nicely but being such a complex and innovative title involving so many talented people some aspects are nearly completely finished while others still need more attention." (And yet again here, Bartwe has clarified his error...where? On reddit, not the official site).

This person could also make sure that the messaging coming from Chucklefish and its members was honest but positive. E.g: Bartwe's earlier tweet could have read something like "Got a lot of positive feedback from the live crowd!" Leave it at that. Or: "Lots of great feedback to share with the community in the coming week, very excited!" Etc.

As I've said numerous times before, I know nothing about coding/programming etc. I do know that when a company appears to have a total lack of unity or knowledge of where exactly they are going (and I'll once again cite the examples of the PS4 pre-launch vs. the X-Box One, because while I hope to buy both consoles, there is no denying the Sony was prepared and of one mind on what their product did, why it did it that way, etc. Whereas Microsoft seemed excited, but no one quite knew how the always online function worked, game sharing etc.), people lose confidence, start to criticize more angrily, and some even abandon the product altogether.

I'm not questioning in any way that Starbound will be a great game, whenever it comes out I'll play it, I won't seek any kind of refund for my pre-order as I understood then how it worked. However, it is becoming evermore clear that Chucklefish is striving to become a bigger, more widely-known entity, but seems unable to deal with some of the frictions that accompany such a drive - there are numerous examples beyond what I've mentioned, but they keep piling up.

What I am questioning is why a company, which seems to be loaded to the brim with talented people, is somehow unable to recognize that it is currently not capable/staffed correctly to articulate and advertise in the way it appears Tiy and others want to.

TL;DR - Communication has been dispersed and vague, it needs to be focused and clear.

You people whining about the release of the beta and how long its taken are seriously the worse. You all knew up front that the wait would likely be a very long time. We weren't even going to get a beta at all, but you all insisted on it anyways with the understanding that it might take a while. Now you're turning your back on something, and throwing a tantrum is pretty hilarious.

Also if you're one of the nerds in this thread that thinks you know how Chuckefish should be ran, then you might want to consider not posting anymore.

hello there im a lurker :p but let me ask this in general. Wy are so many obsessed to get a date on the beta ? the team is currently squashing bugs and adding the last of the tier one content and i understand that in a game this complex there must be alot of bugs to find and sqush before your able to release a stable beta. They have they will release it when they feel its ready and i personaly think thats a good approach so they dont release a product that have to many flaws in it. Put yourself in their shoes people yelling for the beta and being rude about it would stress me out if i where a developer

Chucklefish if you ever read this. Thank you for doing a great jobb love your updates on the homepage. Had a chuckle about the yogcast playthrough (they where clearly the yogcast :p ). The penguin space pirates rocks ! and loved the penguin tank (wonders if ther is buildable tanks in the game)

On a final note. I am really looking forward to the beta and the game as much as the next guy on these forums but take your time and do it properly o.o7 over and out

Most of those people are just jealous that somebody has already played the game, even iff it was just an hour and a tech-demo.

So, I'm the one who's waiting for the game since 2012. I understand, that devs know better about their game and thus I do not feel anything of what you have mentioned. May be some more healthy patience is needed?

Sorry but i have not read anything else then a estimated 2013 release. And it hard to give a relase date if your unsure of when it will be ready. Sure they could say september release but if they miss it and concidering these forums these days all hell would break loose.

I specifically like the end there where it was basically held back from us for yogs. That and the game was delayed what.. three days?
