I'm sure if you look back a few pages, you can find my bajillion words on this, but I think there's a strong argument that this was really bad business sense - not giving out early copies (which is an obvious necessity), but giving out an early copy to every LPer with 500 followers and a pulse.

NOT ALL OF US! Are afraid of putting exclamation points randomly into sentences. NOR! Are we all simply sad that "we no haz game". I can wait for the game. What grinds my gears is watching otherwise intelligent people make (or defend) incredibly shortsighted, simplistic, and, well, bad business decisions.

I'm out of clever analogies, though, so you will have to scroll back.

 

I just don't see the point in arguing over it at all, good or bad. They haven't done anything unethical, they haven't degraded the quality of the game or altered the release date. So what is there to be upset about?

You made a sound argument there, and you might be right, but at this point it's pretty subjective. We'll only know for sure the effect it had in hindsight. Ultimately, if it's a bad business decision then they'll get a bad result from it, lesson learned, they'll do things differently next time. No harm done, and certainly no need for half of the forum to point out the obvious.

I can understand having a requisite for a lower limit of followers. LP's are free advertising if you stumble across them. You want exposure from ones with a reasonable amount of coverage. They also want more control over pre-beta release distribution.

Lol I don't mean hand them out physically. The envelope comment got a chuckle. I meant digital distribution. Even 50,000 down-loaders is pretty heavy traffic. They may have a link to a "light load" download server for testers that the LPers got their stuff through or some other similar method of limited distribution.

As I understand it, beta is going out through steam for the electronic distribution of the actual game but the initial pre-orders were handled differently, but we are getting a key or pass for it in email likely with instructions for use with steam.

I have pre-ordered it for my wife and I of course. Got mine shortly after pre-order was available. We enjoy games like this. We burned a lot of time on Terraria 1.2 alone.

By future sales I mean future steam sales or dev team approved sales. The total price may shift in the future. Just have to wait and see.

So, any clue on Steam exact time release, I mean, time zone.

 

You don't have to watch......it is really that simple. I haven't watched one single second of any beta video...and all those little cool discoveries are still all mine.
I don't have any issues with this, someone may watch that would never think of buying this game and become convinced to spend some cabbage for the product. That is a win for all of us (even you)...because we will get updates (longer) and new contact (more) as the game becomes more popular.

Touching, but where I live 50% of the population is on some form of assistance you don't bite the hand that feeds. I remember when freedom was free....

Not really seeing the logic here, just because they give you financial aid doesn't mean that you have to, or are in any way obliged to, agree to everything or for that matter anything that they do, unless you live in a dictatorship or something.

 

Can you pre order via Steam on the 4th Dec and still gain access to the beta? or do I need to pre order via the official site?

I prefer to use Steam for my downloaded games...
