How will you play the game, if your right hand is also playing another copy of the game?
Doesn't the game require both a hand on keyboard, and one on the mouse?

I haven't got an invite either. It's probably for the best though, it would probably take me like a week to download the bloody thing. :p

I like the fact the ship is portrayed as the first image. Stops a bunch of people on Stream from screaming "terraria clone!!!111". In fact, the conspiracy theorist in me asserts that the Steam front-page image was one of the driving factors to have the ships redesigned prior to beta. ;)

But I'm a bit concerned there is no mention anywhere on the store page that Starbound is a sandbox game, that you can build and craft in it. Again, I don't necessarily think its good to come across as "just another Minecraft or Terraria", but at the same time, we shouldn't come across as a generic non-sandbox adventure game, which is something a new player just visiting the store may see.

You and I know that Starbound is unique, neither a "Terraria clone" nor a "generic adventure game". But what's important is a first impression for someone completely new, who only skimmed over the Starbound snippet for 5 seconds, and in those 5 seconds would either decide to buy the game or move on. What can Starbound do to come across in the best light for new visitors in this brief moment in time?

How would you summarize and package the full scope of Starbound, with its near-infinite content and genre blending, into a single paragraph accessible to someone first seeing it?

From someone that 'might' be in the Beta the game is pretty bare bones you're not missing anything. Having a ton of hours in many different Elder Scrolls games doesn't really help since the game is completely different, it just feels like a generic MMO at this point.

I got invited into the ESO beta, but I forgot my account info and I can't retrieve it. lulz.

Anyways, I'm sad that the beta will be released right when I have to start studying for my finals :(

The publisher needs to make money somehow. If it's not subscription, it's gonna be microtransactions and nickel-and-dime DLCs. Honestly if I ever go back to an MMO, I'd much rather pay a flat monthly fee.

I 'might' be in it too. The download is big and couldn't play, just download the whole time...

    Everything except a FPS :D

MMOs are a special kind of beast design-wise, in that there is a huge up-front cost to develop the core of the game's mechanics to work as an MMO (client-server architecture, anti-hax everything, fundamentally different approach to balance, etc). It's what makes MMOs the most expensive genre to develop.

All this under-the-hood game engine/mechanics/networking work needs to happen before you can give the game a theme/feel to it. So I wouldn't judge how close ESO gets to the "Elder Scrolls" roots until release. Beta is a time to test core mechanics, not so much thematic/artistic feel.

...This logic hurts my brain. You'd rather pay monthly for a subsciption than play a free game where the cost is optional? Sometimes blind and blanket dislike of microtransactions/DLC is pretty silly, and this is a good example.
