And yet again the topic is derailed. Maybe everyone should take their opinions - oh, i'm sorry, their "facts" - elsewhere so this topic can actually be about what it's supposed to be about? I'd take rants about Starbound's release date over this.

Personally I found PoE rather boring. Torchlight 2 was indeed a lot better, but it actually came out purposely after Diablo 3 and had some last-time mechanic changes to adjust because of D3.

I really don't know how much Torchlight 2 "tweeked" last-minute mechanic changes... it was released only a couple weeks after Diablo 3 was, not a whole lot of time to change much of anything. But that may explain why the characters in TL2 run like they're on crack.

Personally I have enjoyed PoE the most of the three, but to each their own I suppose. It definitely starts off slow but the sheer amount of build possibilities keeps me rolling different characters after I'm done with one... I absolutely love the skill gem mechanics, dark and gritty atmosphere, massive passive tree, & the looting (TL2 ran into a similar problem that D3 did that rare and legendary gear was far too common, imo). Currently I'm leveling up a summoner witch and am absolutely having a blast (its been my main way of staying sane waiting for Starbound, ).

My experience with Diablo 3 may be partly influenced that I was so hyped when it came out and its launch sucked but I tried soooo hard to like that game but just could not. I played through Normal and Nightmare, then played through once with my fiance through Normal with her and neither of us has wanted to pick it back up since. Builds were pigeonholded (virtually every character of the same class played the same, there was no variety or choices), the combat got stale after the first act of Normal, and in my experience it just became a chore to complete. My fiance however quite enjoys Torchlight 2 and we're planning to do a run of Path of Exile together after we get married.

 

I liked XIII. I feel like square knows what they are doing, things change yknow. I'll admit they are different and its difficult for some people to accept change in games they grew up with.
Although i will say that i didnt like the story for XIII-2 but i didnt get the chance to play it all the way through because i had to sell my ps3.

 

Everyone just hated Yogscast, that's it. Yogscast didn't destroy anybody.

I believe Diablo 3 launched in may, while TL2 in september, so that's more than a few weeks
But it didn't had any major mechanic-change due to the lack of time, just a few tweeks to make it fit.

I agree that rare loot in D3 and TL2 are awfully easy to come by and it really grinds my gears. In that aspect, PoE takes a point. I actually enjoyed most mechanics that Path of Exile brought to the table, but it got rather boring after a while, at least for me. It's always funny, though, to get on a hardcore character and laugh at someone that dies

Yeah I like all 3 of them though, they all have their charm. PoE is the most original of them though. I find myself not playing any of them though been getting into Dota2 recently.

 

I've been wanting to give Dota2 a go for a while now, but I've never been a great fan of Dota's champions.

Heroes of the Storm got my attention too

 

Doh! You're right about that, I had a brain blurp... I meant to say a couple months, haha (but you're right its more like a few).

Anyway, perhaps I'll see you around some time then. Duelist is one of the character classes I haven't rolled up yet, but was thinking of doing so (thinking of making a two-handed sword build to use an awesomesauce unique two-hander I found the other day with my witch). What kind of duelist do you have and how did you find the class overall?

 

I'm going for a quick, dual-wield fighter. I actually picked him, because he looked the more gentlemanly of all the classes, lol. But I've been thinking of trying another playstyle lately.

I'm actually enjoying it, the survivability is pretty good, considering the high damage output. It's a great class for soloing on hardcore mode. Not so much when you're playing in groups, though,

Yeah that's true. Always looked like a good class. My first character I picked Shadow because I wanted to go for some kind of hybrid fighter and it really sucked.

If you're looking into a new character, try out the witch (you don't need to do a summoner build obviously, probably wouldnt get past Act 1 in hardcore cause it sucked early on). But some of the things she says is really funny. (she easily has the best "not enough room" line in the game... "Too. much. clutter. [in the most british sounding way possible]" ... she also seems to salivate and say "Life is fleeting!!" whenever someone is bloodlusted... )

Yeah Heroes of the Storm looks awesome, hope i get into the beta for it. Dota2 takes some getting used to, and the characters sort of grow on you as you play.
My favorites to play as are Bloodseeker, Tusk, and Skywrath Mage. But its also free so if you get it and dont like it you could always get rid of it.
The tutorials actually pretty good if your new to games like league or dota. Just keep in mind that if you try it and people call you noob or whatever just ignore them.
Everyones new at some point.

Nah, I play DotA since it firstly came out as a mod and been playing LoL since beta. Though I haven't grown fond of the DotA champions, I'm really impressed with the new mechanics. I'm also waiting for HotS beta. And WildStar beta. And Everquest beta. And Elder Scrolls Online beta. And of course, Starbound beta.

Damn betas...
