Just gone roaming over this thread and all i can say is

Quality=Time (Not counting Duke),releasing it too soon could trash the game or even break its potential as devs wanted to,let the bird fly to its destination, there's nothing bad on it

It would just prove if you are casual gamer or really waiting for a quality game that has something to offer for your
    enjoyment

I'm not trying to compare the two. I'm just saying that sometimes games suffer from issues during development, be it missed dates, controversy, hiatus, hardware failure, etc. All things that you brought up in your post.

Fez suffered from pretty much everything in the book and it still came out and was fantastic. I also wasn't trying to make a comparison between Phil Fish and Chucklefish *other than saying such controversy does not make the devs "bad"... even though I just now realized they both have fish in their names. :wut:

    EDIT: stuff around the *

I'm not, and i don't see how you took it that way.
I think you just don't like me.
In any case, we all beat the dead horse. There's just as many people repeating themselves as there are telling them repeatedly to stop repeating themselves. The only winning move in that respect is to simply stop posting, but I wouldn't expect that of anyone. So why even walk down this sticky road of " everyone keeps saying what has already been said. "

Quality equals time? Hmmm ;) I don't think so. Look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareto_principle (or http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pareto_efficiency)

You can also say: 20% effort to achieve 80% success (statistically spoken). This normally presumes to have a plan in more complex structures like game development. That's what this is about: People here don't ask for a full release, they want beta. Beta does not have to be perfect, yet it is not here. Or did CF misunderstand the principle and goes for 100% quality wihtin 100% of time? I don't think so. I doubt they have quantizable parameters to even measure quality. This seems to be more a "quality by feeling" ;). So quality has a lot intrinsic factors, not only time.

Ps: One huge difference to normal products (like a pen) is the anticipation. If a product like a pen (which no one waited for) is crap, ok, no one cares or buys it (you can measure quality directly by sales). If a games with high anticipation becomes crap, you have a problem since 8-9 out of 10 customers tell friends about what's bad, only 2-3 customers pass good things on.

So there is a need for feedback. Still, most developers do not take this into account, they program their game, then sale it. No early testing. The earlier, the better. This would be a dream for every other business, free testers with direct feedback.

True story, but any other examples I could have given would be strictly anecdotal which would fail to illustrate my point.

Plus ain't nobody gonna believe or give a shit about anecdotes.

timing is trike too soon and the cake is under cooked to long and it is inedible. this applies to games as well as cake :cautious:. ofc you can always add more topping after it's cooked :p.

ps cake is not a lie. it's delicious and test of coffee and chocolate

Yeah, Quality=time. In every scenario. There has never, EVER been a case where quality did not equate to time.

    EVER.

Did you know that extended time is actually thought to be responsible for a lot of mistakes in various occupations?

Businesses don't just want the game out by a certain time because it gets them money quicker. They want their employees to set goals, and to get something substantial done.

I hate to be so actively contrary but I don't know if this is the best thing to post in reference to this thread. Many people post this and I am afraid it is becoming just as inflammatory as beta demands. Patience is not something that is constant. As we get closer to the deadline, and it seems that the delivery is close at hand, patience continues to be tested as we do not get concrete details on the actual release. This causes unrest and simply telling people to bolster their patience paradoxically causes them to lose it faster. Many here have no negative feelings about the beta release they simply have questions because their patience is being tested.

lalala, each case is a case
duke nuken forever had all the time in the world, maybe more, and turned out to be crap
xrebirth and cube world had rushed releases and also turned out to be crap

Unfortunately the only remedy for that is information, which until is received, this circle has no outlet.

Take personal business and fights to a private message basis.
This thread was supposed to be about beta.
Not the semantics of an argument that no longer has a point.
It doesn't make you 'cool' or 'informed'.
Argument is cool if its accomplishing something, or adding to a conversation.
But a lot of this has become nonsense.

So sayeth Wulpher, prophet of the Beta.
