I find it frustrating that the devs sort of corralled us all into one thread to discuss the beta release, but other than the occasional mod breaking up an argument here and there, there isn't any real official communication happening here. I totally get WHY there is only one official thread for this talk - we don't want to gum up the entire forum with "BETA WHEN?" discussions. It would just be nice if there was anywhere near as much effort put into the devs communicating real information to us in this thread as there is making sure all of us post in the same place about it. Hell, if we got one dev post back to a question once every fifty pages, it would be an improvement.

I'd much rather they focus on the game you impatient folks keep breathing down their necks for

"The fact that *opinion*" And it seemed "exceedingly obvious" that it was gonna be released summer 2012 as well, yet here we are.

Uh no it didn't. Especially not in retrospect.

It didn't according to you. The articles floating about on Curse and other gaming media which prominently featured the summer 2012 release date had more people than me hopeful. And that it wasn't obvious in retrospect is the point that i'm trying to make.

There's a big difference between reading an article and following the game. Not that it makes it not an opinion, but still.
Perhaps I should have said "more stable". CF can't realistically be expected to catch every bug of course, but the easily-fixable issues would be taken care of, so the beta should be at least mostly stable. The main issues with beta, I think, would come from any changes that cause problems.
Who said there was only a few? (Not that this was the only thing that needed to be taken care of though.)
Everyone has their own opinion of what is and isn't essential, and it usually isn't going to match up with what the devs are aiming for. And every time someone sees something being added that they don't feel is "important" enough to have in by the beta, they start to wonder what the devs are spending their time on that stuff for, and start to suspect that the devs have been mired up in unimportant stuff. The devs can deny it (in fact, they already have), but ultimately fans will still look for examples to that effect, and they'll find it since it is a subjective matter.

I guess my point is, it's just a matter of opinion. When we're talking about features like mechs, techs, grappling hooks, villages and so on, there's generally going to be a group that bought the game because of it, and another that wonders why it's even in the game at all(and especially during beta).

This right here. I don't actually think anyone but the customers read this thread. Which is doing nothing to assuage the feelings and the fears that our continued support will go equivocated. It is one thing to have speculation that a playable build will be released by the end of the year as promised, and completely another to have real commitment to that effect. And thus this thread travels in circles with no real outlet. It helps no one.

That's a huge assumption to make. I still haven't bought it yet but I still read this thread an I am pretty damn sure I'm not the only one.

First of all, why argue semantics? Second, you are still a customer of this game, albeit a potential one. Which is even more profound because your demographic should be foremost in the developers mind. Why would they go out of their way to leave you as a hanger on when you could potentially be a committed customer? Delivering on promises and committing to dates are major contributors to purchasing behaviors.

Read twice please. As I said, despite all the things you could say about beta release/delays, the game itself can still become good, and I think it will. Please try to understand that some people are a bit upset. When preorder began, full release was set 2013 - without that "estimated" mark, beta also 2013. So this is not waiting in a common manner (release date set, sit and w8) but a step backwards. I never preordered a game before (and I won't now anymore - pig in a poke). If it was kickstarter, ok, that is a whole other story. (o_O)

Nope, I'm not comparing CF to EA, I never directly mentioned EA (plus Gothic 3 is not from EA), absolutely never said CF is greedy/evil/uncaring or greedy/evil/uncaring as EA. Nice how you interprete things and directly transcribe them to CF (maybe that is your special filter). Easy, please don't feel so personally attacked. But that wasn't even what my post was about anyway (see "bottom line").
Hmm can't remember the reasons for delay, only "it's not yet the game we want it to be". A reason would be "this feature/some features doesn't/do not work, we have several game crashing bugs, we want those features in beta (or a certain number of features if they don't want to spoil) etc. That I would call real reasons, and you can write them down in less than five minutes. But maybe I have missed something :)

Bottom line: I did not like the way CF handled this situation, and I still don't like it. And I tell them, so that they will do better next time. That's what I meant. If everyone just tells the developers what is wrong (in their personal opinion), something like EA would have never happened. I hope it is now more understandable.

LOL...yeah, that would happen, no civil unrest here!!!

Ok, so you think...sorry, you are representing, er, uh you know some peeps that believe the screenshots are doctored correct? So that means the i49 video was a movie? and the other videos are movies as well? I see, and the film maker is Stanley Kubrick who really didn't die and also faked the moon landing. You guys, er your friends, er people that post I thank you clearing all this up.

Who Knew? It's all an elaborate hoax to scam money...dag-gone-it, I just lost 15 bucks. Do I get the movie on DVD or am I just screwed totally???

Probably. It's too bad. It would've been cheaper and more reasonable for them to just make an actual video game... I'm probably talking crazy though.

If my goal wasn't to help the devs, I wouldn't have dropped 1,200 on pre-orders and just sent copies to random people I promise. That said, you may not remember it, but I do, initially we were supposed to have a full release by the end of 2013 (That's when I initially pre-order when it first came up) with a Beta coming out before then. They have since changed their tune (Again) and made it so only beta is scheduled for 2013. I certainly understand developing a game takes time, but they have to understand that if they keep missing release dates, alot of people are going to lose faith in them as a game developing team, more for the fact that they give false promises, and can't meet their own deadlines, and when I pre-ordered, again I was assuming I'd have a beta BEFORE the end of 2013 was here, which is abot when ESO is supposed to be open. Myself and alot of others (Some of whom cancelled their pre-orders) were a bit shocked and disappoint when the devs changed their tune and said that dates were being pushed back again.

Here we are in the middle of November, with no Beta in sight, I get the "We'll put it out as soon as we know" that's been said several times now, that seems less and less likely, it feels like they are waiting for a particular date at this point to put the BETA out, I'm hoping it's not Christmas. Will I cancel my pre-order(s) ? Not until January 1st, and then it won't be because I don't want the game, then it will be because I feel my money would be better spent supporting a different dev team.

Jesus, man. I would question the wisdom of dropping 1200 bucks on anything that hasn't even been released yet, regardless of how long its development cycle has been.

you got to love that boll still it better watch out for elephant in the living room.

"why is a fluff (no matter how orsem it maybe) more important than the Beta?"

Again, I had the extra money to spend at the time, and wanted to help the devs and the game itself, as time draws closer, I regret the decision a little more. 1,200 isn't that much. I've spent more, and things that were even more foolish and stupid, thankfully as I get older, I learn to stop spending it on stupid shit, hence I have extra. =)

I think that's what just breaks my brain regarding that though. $1200 has been a lot for me since I was a little kid, and continues to be a lot now that I'm an adult. My parents make, at most, $42k/year. 1200 is almost 3% of their annual income. If you make $100,000 a year, I can perhaps understand a bit more... but not at something I would consider normal.
