    No. Anyone excited for beta?

I'm extremely excited for this game, and knowing that I'll get access to the beta sometime in the next 44 days makes me even more excited. I'm hoping it's more like 5 and less like 43, but I'm not going to complain either way. Perfection surely takes some time.

Funnily enough I am careful with my money, it's why I can spend extra on things like this when I want to. That said, I'll ask for a refund for the particular Tier I got if there's no BETA before 2013 ends, but I don't think they will delay it that long, at least I certainly hope not, I'll lose alot of faith in them if they do.

Honestly? Other then MOBAs, no I don't play multiple games at once, I have never gamed that way, probably never will. I'll get a game, play it till I'm done with it, and then I almost never pick it back up, in the case of Terraria and Minecraft, I'll pick them back up if a friend really wants me to play, or a big update has hit. Games aren't fun for me a second time around, my loss, but that's how my mind works. To much repetition makes the game compltely unfun, that's why I don't play most MMORPGs for that long, it gets repetitive, I think it's from playing RO for years, and years. Burned me out on that sort of grind.
It's not making my opinion of it less, but let's say Heroes of the Storm comes out, and two weeks later Starbound comes out, there's a very real chance I won't play the Starbound beta for some time then, I won't even give it the chance, why? Because I've been expecting it for several months now, and it wasn't there. So I'll go play this awesome looking MOBA till I'm bored with it, and maybe tinker with Starbound, it just won't matter as much as something else, because well, I got sick of waiting, again the way my mind works, the game just won't be as fun.
While you're absolutely right on this, it's one of those things, sure I can play Starbound anytime I want, but if I'm going to wait X amount of time to play it, why did I even bother pre-ordering it? If the game isn't good enough to pull me away from something else, due to extensive wait times, or it's just not good. Why did I waste money on it? I don't WANT to start thinking of Starbound in such a way, that I feel I wasted money on it.

I am excited for beta in a completely reasonable way. One that allows me to continue to sleep unaffected and commence my daily activities without much thought on it.

I am too excited for beta lol I CANNOT wait to dissect this game and finally play it. That said, this is Chucklefish's creation, they care more about this game than we do. They will release their baby to the public when they feel it is mature enough.

    Patience guyz.

edit: my bet is still on a Nov. 21st release.

Here's what has some people confused or upset. How long does it take to remove a few gamebreaking bugs? They've had months since the i49 demo to go from "playable in closed settings" to "generally stable"

Also, they seem to be adding in a few non-essential features (I fail to see how mechs could be required for beta).

Are they sticking to the "beta after third tier implementation" or are they trying to stuff as much as they can into the beta? As said earlier, is feature creep working against beta release?

    Apparently it does take months.
    1) Very little is 'required' for beta. Strip the game to its bare bones, with practically zero content, and that's all that's 'required'. And perhaps that would suit you for beta. But I doubt it would suit most people, and it clearly doesn't suit CF. The model that the devs want for beta is clearly not one where a minimal beta is released, and then content is added over time. They obviously prefer a beta model where the bulk of the game is in place, so they can concentrate on bugfixes and balancing. And that's a decision for the devs, not for people impatiently waiting for the beta.
    2) If there is anything they are putting in which wasn't planned for beta, there are devs who are not programmers. From the updates it's apparent that the programming side of things still needs some work. Should the artists sit on their hands while they wait for the programmers, or should they keep working?
They're trying to stuff as much as they can into the beta. Tiy said as much about the tiers - after Omni's response where he said that he thought it was three tiers for beta, Tiy said "as many tiers as we can". That's not feature creep. That's their beta plan. You may not like it, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with them trying to have a content complete beta where it was their plan all along.
Good question. Why did you pre-order, when there has never been an actual date given for release? If there was a chance that some other awesome game would come out at the same time which you'd rather play than Starbound? Assuming that your goal for pre-ordering was to get the game as soon as possible, and not to help the devs make the game, that is.

Wait, what? What's beta? I thought Starbound is just a forum about pixelart. Hm… So, it's an actual game then actually? Well, that's cool, I guess :)

Your face while reading this… xD No offense, lol! I'm just bored and tired to wait as most of us :)

Think about it that way. Each day the beta is not released, the probability it will be released next day is slightly higher. So today is the 18th of November and the chance is 1/44 (44 being the number of days until the end of the year including today). Tomorrow it's going to be 1/43, then the next day 1/42 and on Thursday 1/41 :D

I really don't get this model of thinking, CF has failed to meet every estimation that they have made thus far, why are people assuming that they will be right this time around?

Exacly, as every day passes by, I think they will not meet their 2013 Beta release. That thought was triggered mostly after reading the "weekly updates".

  19. ZanVaelius

    ZanVaelius Existential Complex

Hope? The fact that the updates are making it exceedingly obvious that the game is actually nearing completion?

Plus this only works mathematically if we have an end date to go by. Sure, if we assume that beta releases 12/31/13, we could assume as much. But the devs won't nail down ANY date whatsoever. Not even one of six remaining weeks.
