You never put more then a single beta in a thread. They will fight to the death.
Don't you know that is why they are called Japanese fighting games? :p

Not a chance. Do you see the thread? It was crazy like, 3 pages into it. Even Molly got a jab in. You can almost like, set your watch to it now. "Oh new post? Beta-war starting in 3...2...1..." It even got to some funky places too, I thought I saw some people arguing about condiments? I might have hallucinated that part. But its...its quite the experience.

That update can be summed up as:
Okay delays aren't bad in my view. Starbound beta wont be delayed by the way. Also nothing is set in stone in development.

Not really much to add to the discussion other then to say.. a lot of people agree AND disagree with him.

I had commented more or less earlier that all the post was was, "Things TiY he has already said, the abridged version."

he did, it's 2013 for beta

anything more precise would just lead to a whole lot more whining if this estimate turns out to be wrong... thus why he doesn't do it...

Wow...I am so glad I preordered 4 copies. I could not bear for me and my friends to wait until some unnamed time next year..we all want this game asap! For what it is worth for those who are losing their patience, we have spent almost two million dollars on preorders alone, they want to make the game worth it. It's not their fault that the game is so exciting.

The more pre-orders there are, the more motivated they will be to satiate those pre-orderers (if that's a word)

If only everyone who disagreed with him would actually read his posts, so they know what they're disagreeing with...

An awful lot of people didn't even make it through the first sentence he wrote, where he specifically said "The very first thing I want to say, to avoid any confusion, is that we’re still estimating the beta this year." How people managed to translate that to mean "beta will be delayed" is too difficult for my poor brain to process.

I feel pitty on the dev's for all the people thinking that means beta is delayed when it really means the date for this year.

Not difficult at all. You only have to look at the history of delays involved in this development to get a sense that the team isn't good at managing and planning time or anything related to it.

Then you have a whole page of the lead developer airing his views as to why delays are ok. Near the end of a deadline.

It really doesn't take much to see how people came to that conclusion. Tiy may say ignore Duke Nukem Forever or, this isn't a sign things are going poorly.. but like the boy who cried wolf as I've said, many people have stopped listening to what he says and instead watches what he does.

Which posting that so near to the end of 2013 with the tone it had trying to justify delays about the release and beta was probably a bad decision. However it did give people a platform to voice their views on it, so perhaps in the long run will be beneficial.

I think its because Tiy put in the word estimating that people think the beta is going to be delayed. If no one guarantees anything people assume things.

I would like to make a couple of small points here.

Stardrive. Fantastic little 4x game. Novel concept, great ship designer, game was pushed to release date by steam even though the creator knew it wasn't ready yet. A little under six months later and he's still trying very, very hard to make his game what he wants it to be. At the same time there are quite a number of people who paid full asking price for something that (due mostly to the arbitrary nature of a steam release IE there was no renegotiation) was unfinished. There has been quite a lot of negative backlash from that.

Release Dates and deadlines. Release dates, if they are set by the company programming the game, are not arbitrary. I work in a factory. I have deadlines. I don't have the option of pushing back deadlines. I either have production orders filled and ready to ship or the customer gets to listen to why their order is not filled (and because they gave us 4 production days to do 8 days worth of work is not a valid reason). I just put in 30 hours in two days to make one such deadline. It sucks. It really, really sucks and I know the quality of my work and the work of my crew, while still meeting standards, was at the very bottom end of standards.

I'd rather not rush what looks to be the best thing since Terraria. At least until Terraria 2 gets ready for release. If we're still waiting at that point I'd start to be concerned.

    Was Stardrive early access?

    The13thclam Big Damn Hero

Yes, yes it did offer early access. I bought in during one of the first builds, watched it grow, and knew along with pretty much everyone else that come that release date it was not going to be ready.
