Let me remind you about it:

So, all main game mechanics are in place. They could change like current tier system ("it only a placeholder", yes?), but mostly they stay the same. According to the "Future of SB" only big thing missing are questline and colony building. So, combat system, items and crafting system, spaceship traveling likely not going through groundbreaking changes. No character progress besides progressing by items, no sophisticated crafting, constant random-generated weapon grinding (for +1 dps), visiting same random generated structures again and again with a micro chance to get something meaningful. Now that's look totally dull.

its silly how my brother bought starbound a few days after he bought Terraria. after I got to play starbound I completely forgot about Terraria.

haha "your opinion is different you're stupid"

    please

since we're on the topic of opinions "a bunch of different ways to attack" is not what i would consider a polished combat system

sb's isn't that great either but the controls feel much less clunky which makes for a better gameplay experience for me, and if you seriously can't tell the difference between the two then it's no wonder our definitions of polished are different, we're clearly looking for different things

You say all main game mechanics are in place, yet you appearently didn't read what was in the spoiler? The text within was going on and on about being UNfinished...

Villages, laboratorys, a wizard-like guy in his house, recently left camps, guys around a fire barrel.... Basicly just stuff. Just wen't to the beta sector so far so I don't know if there will be more stuff to find.

To your quotet Phase 1 description:

I think the most important sentence in there is this:
"A bunch of unfinished features will be disabled whilst we finish them up."

So there is not most of it implemented because a lot of features are diabled.

Ok, so it' about exploring for the sack of exploring. That's alright, but i personally prefer something with a little of reward, at least.
I want to share your optimism, i'd really want to. But what are those mysterious features are? Not a single word slipped from Devs, instead they start to integrate user mod's at masse. Makes you wonder about what's going on.
And if those feature are from "The future of Starbound" only, then they clearly aren't enough to make game truly interesting and unique, IMO.

So you know that was not a road map. That was just some things to look forward to that someone posted that the developer decided to share it.

http://playstarbound.com/roadmap/ that link there is the road map. With most of the features listed (Besides some hats and pets and novakids. Maybe some other stuff. Since lets be honest it is a old road map. I say that because I am not sure if it has been updated.)

Of course I'm optimistic, the game is still in an early stage. Also I don't go along with todays common concept of badmouthing every new game (espacially mmo's) on principle (this is not related to your sayings).

Early access games are intesifying this problem a lot imo just because people are paying money, often the price of the released game, to get access to an quite early state of the game. What a lot of people do then is that they compare these early state games with other games which have been released already. And because they paid money for it, some people take the view that the devs have to deliver game with full content, if they don't -> game is bad.

Some more optimism from the players would help the gaming industry in total I think. Declaring a game as failed from the first look is not helping anyone.
(Again, I am talking about poeple in general here, not you :iswydt:)

That hasn't been updated in a long time. However, I see nothing on there that isn't already in the game. Care to point out more specificly what features there are that could be disabled atm?

I played some Terraria last night. It's a classic to me that I'll always cherish. But, after Starbound the pace seems much slower, the crafting interface is clunky & the UI is lacking. I might park it again until 1.3 & then play to endgame one more time just to check out the new content.

Terraria has always looked fun to me.
And with all the comments in this thread, I'm thinking I should get around to trying it out.
I don't mind its graphics... so, would getting Terraria be worth my time?

Terraria is much more polished and refined a game at this point. What SB has over Terraria is a massive amounts of potential. The modding community is what will bring SB over the top in the end IMO.

Right now i feel that SB spread far too thin as to what kind of game it whats to be. It swings from being a cutesy do-whatever-you-want sandbox game, to something with a bit more depth, maturity and engrossing progression. I think the modding community will take those reigns and make it hardcore for those who enjoy that, or turn it into a full on playground for those that enjoy that style.

Lol, funny because I did the same thing to help pass the time while waiting for the patch and the first five minutes was me just standing there getting attacked by slimes while I struggled to remember how to play. I kept trying to use 'E' to interact with crafting stations, I forgot that I actually have to craft back walls instead of just right clicking, etc. It felt so clunky going back to the Terarria mechanics. I'm a huge fan of Terraria (almost 200 hours on it) and perhaps I'll still play from time to time, but SB I think has a lot more potential and has more in it to keep me interested right now as development on it progresses.

Terraria has far more polish. But between the options, actually, I've been playing a ton of Minecraft for the last month. I only just got it for Christmas, and Starbound just can't pull me from it. I'll load Starbound and play for maybe 20 minutes, then load Minecraft and suddenly it's 2 in the morning.

Starbound has potential. Maybe it'll distract me from Minecraft and Terraria after a few more patches.

It may be difficult for you to go back and play Terraria because of the change in gameplay philosophy. In Terraria you have to earn EVERYTHING. Its pace is more deliberate. You're not going to run along the surface and find cool things for your base right away.

I do think its more polished and rewarding. Plating your base with gold may sound simple, but its satisfying to look at knowing the work that went into it. Terraria is less of a playground and more a game about progression.

Mini biomes, and party's that is just two things I can name off the top with out having to really look at everything. As well as I could list all the features that are not complete as well. (To many to list all here honestly. ) There are even features that are yet implemented into the game that have been announced.(That are not on the road map.) The game is no where near feature complete.

My god, you really have no imagination or vision. No love of the unknown. There are plenty of reasons to investigate more than on planet per tier, from finding already settled places for more codex entries and a sense of a living breathing universe and diversity of characters. If you use the investigate key on things you would see there is even more character and life to this game than terraria has and as much as I must concede that there are only a few varieties so far as far as attack strategies go, there is a definite lack of life to Terraria. It is you, the guide, and the rest of the world wants you dead. You build your own home because all the dungeons respawn their enemies so no matter how hard you work or fight, you could never live in the Dungeon. You could never make NPCs that just plain live and occupy your planet without offering some function, creating a sense of life and responsibility to keep it going.

Kay, Hate to do this but I am going to dissect this comment for the benefit of all in hopes to better explain why you are close-minded.

First Paragraph: I see you have never used a shield when you have the proper armor. You see, the amount of damage blocked is effected by your own armor level and one handed weapons are always much faster. This is my preferred method of combat because of the ability to make the enemy lower their guard by failing to damage me. Especially helps against projectiles.

Second Paragraph: Starbound has spears as well. And every Terraria shortsword is useless. Every two handed sword handles the same until you get around to Starfury level and those variations you talk about are only based on random variables when you make them, making it impossible to plan ahead and sometimes wasting resources making a new sword that is entirely useless to you.

Third and Fourth Paragraphs: Guns and bows exist in Starbound as well, not to mention if you have a good sense of timing, you can amplify your damage and pierce through enemies with the bow in starbound. Try paying attention to those little details.

Fifth Paragraph: The special weapons you get from killing the giant minibosses fill this role rather well actually and though there is much further to go in regard to this, I feel like Terraria only has two or three of those that are actually useful.

Sixth Paragraph and Edit: Terraria lacks in basic mechanics however that when analyzed properly you realize should be basic and you have to waste slots on things like flippers just to swim. I get that it set it apart from minecraft but after playing starbound I am beginning to understand why. Also, don't trash talk my flails. I loved those things being as they passed through enemies and could even be held there to linger, demolishing things like Eater of worlds with little to no effort.

To cover the latter half of your post, Look at skyrim. They wanted to keep werewolves a surprise for the players to find but critics ruined it and gave it all away. I want the mystery. Let me find some things out myself.
