Beta Feedback

  1. Congratulations on the release, guys, first of all!

    The Beta is being pretty addictive. If Starbound looks like this unpolished, it'll be pretty great once it's truly ready. :) Great work.
    I'll be sharing some feedback in this thread, hopefully useful information:


    Suggestions
    1st - Different color for damage dealt versus damage received. Example, damage dealt is displayed in green, while damage received in red. I was genuinely confused at the start when destroying "vases", I was wondering why I was taking damage from them, until I realized it was actually the damage I was dealing. In the middle of a heated battle, it's practically impossible to say which hit belongs to who.

    2nd - Not sure if you guys already have something in mind, but it would be nice to only be damaged by enemies when they actually use an attack on you, rather than taking damage simply by touching them. (Unless the enemies have a spiked Shell, for example)

    3rd - A bit longer spawn time for off screen mobs would be a good addition. I was going on a specific direction at some point and an enemy spawned… I fought it, walking backwards to gain time while shooting my bow. However, after defeating it, I moved onward once again, but, to my surprise, another one had already spawned exactly where this one had been.

    4th - Could we also get leather + meat from mobs when killing them with a melee weapon? It seems odd to only have access to loot after delivering the killing attack with a bow.

    5th - What happened to sleeping = skipping a night? I miss that feature. :p

    6th - The ability to change a character's personality/stance after having created such character.

    Definitely agreed on the touching mobs thing. It's really annoying to get damage when no attack is actually hitting you. Especially if you got somehow wedged into a tight space with the mob, good luck getting out.

    I found myself in this very same problem. Yesterday I went down a cave and was attacked, by that time I was trapped and couldn't get out. Result? Less 200 pixels.
