I have iron axe and I feel that I don't need to upgrade it any higher since it can already chop hard wood. What are the benefits of going to gold or Iridium axe? Thanks.
They take less swings in order to chop trees & hardwood. I've been pretty content with the gold of all tools because it gets the job done, and I don't really feel as if I need the iridium upgrade? But that's just me.
It's just less chops needed on normal trees and its stump. I guess that it the only benefit and that you would use less energy, especially if you were to go and have a tree chopping day in the forest to get wood for your crafting or buildings? Gold Axe= 4 hits to chop a fully-grown tree, and 2 hits for a small stump. Iridium= 2 hits to chop a fully-grown tree, and 1 hits for a small stump.
The amount of swings you need to take out large stumps goes down as well, 5 silver 4 gold 3 iridium. As that will be your main way to get exp for the foraging skill its well worth it upgrading. Picking up foraging items only give exp if they're grown and picked up on your farm, sadly :/ That's why i really liked picking the forest map, "free" 200 xp every day ^o^
Totally worth, you use less energy and get the job done faster, I don't know about you guys, but in the endgame for me I have more need to collect wood than stone, so the golden upgrade really comes handy (hands up for the forest map).
I consider both iridiumupgrades for axe and pickaxe a luxury which can wait until year 3. Before that all iridium is used for sprinklers. I usually buy everything I need in the Endgame since a few 10000 bucks is easily replaced and my time is better spent on my farm ^^
It would be great for the axe to have some sort of secondary use. The pickaxe is cave critical and the hoe can dig up loot. The watering can is oh so important for most early game, but the axe? It just like chops trees yo. It can do jumbo crops yeah, but those are rare and require special effort.
When you consider that the iridium axe has a down payment of 25k, you have to wonder when it will pay off. For that kind of money you can get around 80 cherry bombs and blow up a small forest, or buy 2500 wood without needing to chop down over a hundred trees. So it's certainly the weaker investment out of all the tool upgrades.
I swore the iridium axe took 3 swings...o.0 IDK to me it's fun to see the stump obliterate before the top hits the ground. Also find quick tree cutting to be a great stim myself.
Iridium axe is best axe. It is a joy to go on tree killing sprees with an iridium axe The fact it only takes three swings to knock down the entire tree is amazing.
Considering i built 500 kegs before the 2nd year winter and made a profit of 5m so far.... yeh, 25k don't really matter The iridium axe was the last upgrade i got because its not really necessary beyond steel. Pickaxe was my first, mainly because i didn't want to have to hit every damn rock in the skull cavern 3 times. And that's where you get more iridium easily, so the pickaxe is kinda the best investment on your way to watering automation - at least in my opionion - i only use the watering can once or twice a year anymore and the hoe is the same :7
since you pick up my comment I feel the need of defending my point Automation is most easily reached by using quality sprinklers, iron and gold are just so much easier to get and basically you can, if you want to, get like 60 quality sprinklers in your first winter with ease, watering 480 crops for you. You will never need more. The only real need for iridiumsprinklers is space optimisation. Which means once you will need iridium you allready can earn all the money in the world, which means you should be able to buy like 3000 rocks and 400 bombs to satisfy your hunger for iridium on a lucky fortune day once and for all without the need to ever swing your pickaxe in skull caverns, which is why I consider it a luxury upgrade aswell. Btw I would prefer it if there was a gradually exploreable cave like the good ol' mines instead of this freaky skull cavern system without an elevator. It's much more satisfying to just work your way down the mines with a pickaxe than taking it by force with bombs, however just so lucrative.
For a novice player, making the choice between which tools to upgrade is huge. Saying something isn't really good but you have too much money to care kind of drives the point home. The axe gets upgraded beyond steel because whatever, not because it brings something particularly useful to the table. That sounds painful. There is plenty of reason to upgrade the pickaxe, and it does pay off for the cave explorer. It's silly to say that a 25K upgrade isn't worth it when you are instead paying a quarter million gold on stone and bombs!
I never wasted my time with anything lower then I-Sprinklers, as soon as i got access to Krobus i get myself one every friday and build the rest as soon as i hit the Skull Cavern in 1st WInter i.e. im never in need of Iridium after that.... usually. btw: 3000 stones and 400 bombs cost way more then 25k and i get 200-300 iridium in a run with my 25k axe as well, more then plenty i usually only need 50 ingots and im done... soooo For a new game you usually always go watering > pick > hoe > axe - but preferences change depending how you progress in the game. I usually go for watering/axe to steel first, then pickaxe right to gold, then hoe to steel - after that i usually get everything to gold because that's when my profit picks up - then it's all about luck how quick i get to krobus and my first 5 iridium ingots for a tool upgrade. But usually im in the Skull Cavern by then and want to get more Iridium for I-Sprinkler It really depends how you like to play, other playstyles need other upgrades first =.=
200 iridium without bombs and stairs? Can you please explain me how you are doing it? I never saw regular iridiumblocks before level 40. Which means either iam the greatest unlucky person ever existed who does everything wrong or you are exaggerating greatly. Btw for me it was never about the 25k of the upgrade its more the time invested to get the iridium. I don't like the skull caves since the chances to find iridium on low stairs is just low. And since you cant progress like in the regular mines I allways felt the need to abuse the system of stairs and bombs.
Very Happy spirits, coffee and lucky lunch, 20 mega bombs from the gold i don't need anymore and lots and lots and lots of food that doesnt give any effect, just for health purposes. i tend to get down to 65-75 on these days, usually kill every slime i see and probably get most of my iridium from those (Slime Ring ftw!). Sometimes i even get 6-8 ingots... But it really depends on rng, the holes where you drop down are going to make most of your climb - if you got a small room, bomb it, always try to use the hole instead of the stairs. And then there's other days where i only get out with 1-2 ingots and 60-80 ores, but hey - even that is plenty ^^ i enjoy going through the caverns with my shiny sword and bash those nasty dragons ^^
