Benchmark?

I'm sure Starbound won't have too high of requirements, but having heard about all the performance optimizations, will we have the option to benchmark it before purchasing or anything? IE A small, SMALL little room where you can possibly increase the render distance and mess around with lighting?

Not saying "GIVE ME THIS NAO", but rather just asking if this will be a thing in the future.

I've heard (though I can't site a source) that Starbound should be able to run on even fairly old computers...

That said, I would think your spaceship at the beginning of the game counts as a 'small room'?

This isn't Crysis 3, you know. They've always had older rigs in mind, and even Tiy uses a Macbook Air or something. Chances are, there won't be too many issues coming from compatibility.

Thats odd that you say that, and it's weird that Minecraft (Very badly coded) makes even some of the highest end computers squeel at the site of it.

Poorly coded games will run poorly, even on high end systems. What's weird about that?

I've heard horror stories about how it was coded. It's safe to say that Starbound is different, especially on the technical side.

Also, keep in mind that the PC version of Minecraft was coded in java, a language not usually used to create 3D worlds with a surface area comparable to that of the sun.

You have much of a point there! What language is Starbound coded in? Haven't had a chance to look. (Java? or C#?)

    C++, actually.

I don't know why so many people like Minecraft. It's coding is horrible and the game always plays the same.

Not to mention that Java runs a virtual machine, which inherently makes it take up more computer resources. Now make that virtual machine render a 3D world, which Java was not designed to do... yeah, your computer needs at least a little oomph to get that running smoothly.

I 100% agree with you, and starbound will most def be much better coded and more enjoyable! ;D

I'm only asking to see how you can modify your settings, and there are a few people with literal potatos for computers who'd probably appreciate this (Mine isn't a potato; I'm sure I can run it on at LEAST medium, but I know some people would appreciate a nice benchmark.)

It can run easily on a Macbook Air which is essentially an expensive paperweight.

That PC, I must have. I really even think that is more modern then what I've got at home.
See mine is already sprouting and mold is growing on some other parts.

The website the image was hosted on is being dumb. I switched it.

I'm sure if you had a big enough potato, you could fit a Raspberry Pi computer in one, and make it work.
