- Beam to specific coordinates or waypoints on a planet's surface (e.g. using a specifc item that can be placed) - Disable beaming when ship is out of sight (on a planetary scale) (See also here: http://community.playstarbound.com/...-last-position-on-surface.38775/#post-1396383)
I agree with both of these points. Like many have suggested, the first question could be addressed by having a beacon type furniture item that you can use as teleportation coordinates. The second point really does break the immersion a bit in multiplayer, when you can beam up to ships in the other end of the galaxy. Checking if the ship you want to beam to is in the orbit of the planet you're currently at (or orbiting) would solve it, even if it makes meeting up with friends a bit harder. I guess that's how it should be - you have to actually meet up somewhere.
I wouldn't mind these things. To be honest in the very latest of the late game I would like to see a long range teleporter that can be used without access to the surface to beam up to the ship, provided it is balanced properly. Another thing I would like is if the game remembered your position on a planet when you quit the game. If you were on the surface when you quit it would beam you back up to your ship, possibly giving you an option to return to your last coordinates when using that character again. But if you were not on the surface and you quit the game it should put you back wherever you were, so people aren't just dropping as far down as possible and scavenging materials, then using save and quit as an exploit when things get dangerous.
I agree with these points, You really shouldn’t be able to beam from ship to ship if they are stationed above completely different planets, and a craft-able beacon would be perfect, one that could be used by anyone in the party as well (so long as they are in "range") would be perfect.
I had an idea for 2 items: One is a teleportation beacon. You can have a specific number of them per planet (10? 20?) and they're surface only. You place and name them, then from the ship you can decide which one you beam down to The other is a home beacon. This can be placed underground, but you can only have 1 per planet (so it won't be totally op, but you can build a sweet base underground)
This is a great idea. Beaming down to the same location over and over can become tiring, especially when the most interesting features of the planet are around the entire other side. The home beacon could act something like the beds in Terraria, where you can return to that location as default, but if the item is moved, you return to the default until it is replaced by the beacon again.
