Is there a reason why we are still restricting where and when we can beam up to your ship when Save&Exit (and of course re-loading) basically does the same thing? Actually if you are quick with the mouse, Save&Exit is actually safer than beaming because enemies can still hit you (and kill you) during the beaming animation, even after your character (and the beaming) completely disappears off the screen. Save&Exit works anywhere, even in the middle of a Mission, so why have the restriction on beaming at all? At the end of the day, when we're down in the Lava Layer of a planet... we're still going to Save&Exit regardless of what you guys try to do. I like the micro-dungeons, but they won't stop me from saving and exiting when I have enough ore, or when I'm starting to get overloaded with junk, or if I ran out of torches or what-not. Every time I Save&Exit, I keep thinking to myself "I wish I had Terraria's Magic Mirror...." So, a Suggestion: Why not give us an item at, say, Titanium Tier that allows us to build portals (like the gates only smaller)? For them to work, you must place 2 (and you're only allowed to place two) or perhaps one of each of 2 colors (you're only allowed to place one) and the two are automatically connected? Not sure how that'd work with the game's engine, but if you guys could code it, the player would drop a gate down on the surface of the planet, and then go mining and when they want to return to their ship they can drop the other gate, and warp to the first and then beam to the ship, do their business, and then use the warp gates to return. However, when they're done with the planet entirely, they'd have to pick up the two gates and manually travel.
All of this is planned to be created and implemented at a later point in development. If we're lucky, some of it might show up in the next update.
Well, in the meantime, I really don't see the point in restricting ship beaming when Save&Exit is a thing. *shrugs* It'd just remove some of the unnecessary tedium of having to exit and restart, since you know players are going to do that anyways.
What I'm saying is, they're getting ready to restrict that too, so that if you use Save&Exit and play that character again you stay where you are instead of showing up in your ship.
Well hopefully they give some sort of warping means then, because I don't think anybody is going to enjoy having to truck it for 5+ minutes to get back to the surface after gathering a load of ore. And/or hopefully it can be modded out, because TBH, needless walking is the last thing this game needs.
They also have some sort of planetside teleportation planned, but I don't know if that means changing warp-down point or being able to teleport to different locations.
Well, either way, forcing me to WALK back out of the planet's core would be the quickest way to kill my interest in the game, especially for larger planets. I don't want to spend 30+ minutes digging up a crapton of ore, and then have to spend 5-10 minutes jumping back up out of the planet's core before I can get back to my ship to use the ore I collected. So hopefully they have the sense to only put that in Normal Mode, or allow us to turn it off, or allow it to be modded out if we don't want that "feature".
What does losing a few pixels matter you can just kill some bosses now repeatedly for lots of pixels if you even need them I never buy anything using them and since nothing uses pixels to craft these days what does it matter
For someone to even suggest suicide as a viable option (which would then require someone to go Casual Mode) should suggest loads about how good game design it is to force players to walk back out of the bowels of a planet....
I think a simple solution is to tie it in the Progression Curve: Make the Teleporter upgradeable (is that a word?) I thought about three stages of upgrade: Upgrade 1: lets you Beam back to your ship from anywhere underground or deep under Water. Upgrade 2: Lets you choose the Spot on the Surface to beam down to on the Planet you are currently orbiting. Upgrade 3: Lets you Choose the Planet plus Spot in the Current Solar System (provided you have visited the Planet before.
Might be nice to change the difficulty selector screen to just a page with checkboxes that list which penalties / restrictions you want to place on the character. Personally I abide by the teleportation restrictions as much as I can (barring crashes or when I sincerely want to exit). I am aware that I could Save&Exit to teleport to my ship from the core, but for me that kills the sense that I've gone on a journey to somewhere remote and difficult to access. I'd honestly prefer that Save&Exit actually save your location so I can pick up where I left off. For quickly exiting the core I simply make sure to maintain a vertical bore-hole with platforms I can jump up when I'm ready to leave.
Are you so sure you want to dig all the way back. Up from the core because that would take maybe an hour because it takes half. To go down
If you dig straight down you can just go straight back up. The first time you leave you can just drop platforms ahead of you to climb up. Subsequent visits to the core go very quickly.
You don't need to avoid water, you can just go through it and let it drain down into the core. Or, you could wall it off, or drain it with your Matter Manipulator. Also, you could just let it sit there, since you get immunity to drowning so early. As for returning to the core, some people like to build bases down there. I don't see any other reason to go down that far a second time, though.
