Beam to specific coordinates? Beam down to last position on surface?

    Hi devs,

thx for this great game. It doesn't seem like a beta already. Compliments!

It would be great if you guys could implement a function to beam to specific coordinates on a planet. Also, a function to beam down to the last location one was at before beaming up. The way how it is implemented now is much to easy, particularly when under attack.

    Cheers,
    Eve

well, having like 2-3sec casting time when trying to beam back to base (of course any dmg taken would interrupt the casting) would make it imbossiple to beam a middle of a fight.
Beaming back to spot where you were last time would be a pretty bad idea imo. At max it could be a option. I don't want to run 30min back to my home just because i beamed up at the other side of the map.

But what if your ship is on the other side of the planet and no direct communication is possible?

I agree with the 2-3 sec casting time, good idea!

Do remember that this teleporter has infinite range to other player's ships :p

I am alone, the last human in the universe, so there are no other friendly ships ...

I'd love an item that you could set down, and then you beam down to that location. Pick the item back up to beam down to the default location. It's so tiring traversing each world and dying in some way and having to cover all that ground again.

I'd like to see something similar but more like "waypoints" where you could choose from a menu on your ship which beacon you wanted to beam down to. Don't tell me you've got advanced 3d printing technology and can't target a teleport beam!!

    This.

I remember another old space exploration game Noctis, you could also choose where to beam down from the orbital view, would be nice to be able to select where you want to beam down (already explored areas but i think that might cheapen it. I like the idea of a craft-able item you could use as a spawn point.

Teleportation is vastly more advanced than 3D printing. Hell, we have 3D printers available in the public market NOW

At least beaming to your "house", find myself building my station near the beam drop.

Good luck getting your RepRap to make anything more than plastic baubles.

This seems more on the order of Star Trek replicators than anything else. So being able to manipulate the molecular structure of objects should be applicable to teleport beams, right?

Aren't people 3D printing guns? In real life, I mean. Big more advanced than plastic trinkets.

Yes, but they're hand assembled and explode after one use. Not disparaging the technology but comparing current 3d printing technology with what the in-game version does is silly.

We can 3D print intricate mechanisms and complicated shapes, even artificial organs. People print car parts and durable gun parts. Tell me, how much progress have we made in terms of teleportation? I personally believe teleportation is impossible, but I beg science to prove me wrong.

"You're telling me you can tie a stone to a stick but you can't transmit wireless signals from one electronic device to another?" That's basically what you're saying. Though I agree, waypoints are something I want big time

EDIT: Comparing modern 3D printing to starbounds 3D printing is silly? And comparing 3D printing to teleportation isn't?

I think teleportation is perfectly possible. It's just a lot more complicated than people tend to think. And people think its really complicated. It also has some nasty implications.

I know I'd never use it myself at least. It'd have to destroy me and then rebuild me, and I don't want to imagine what the destroyed version would go through... Kinda freaky really.

what is this krypton? A species will intergalactic travel will NOT all be on one planet. there are lots of humans out there. you are not the last.

A teleportation beacon might be a cool idea. Something you can craft up and leave on the planet's surface. I don't much like the idea of beaming to the players last position, feels a bit too convenient with very little work from the player. Needing a beacon would be a good middle ground between convenience and immersion. :)

Scientists have been teleporting nano sized objects for years. This is the technology that is being used to develop quantum computers and quantum routers. Though they did say that actually teleporting a human would take 350,000 times longer than the universe has existed.

EDIT: I think the record was 150 miles they teleported information
