Hm, this is more interesting than commenting on youtube, but everytime someone comments it doesn't alert me on my phone. I guess I just have to deal with it. (and yes, my dog does look pretty tasty right now)
Well you can watch this thread and then set up your settings to email you each time there's a reply to the thread. That's what I do for this one, anyways.
Aaaaand... done. Phew! Took some searching, but I found the "and send email messages to you" button and clickity clicked. Say, since I'm new(and incompetent in reading instructions), maybe you can show me the ropes as I think of something to talk about? That is if you're not busy or anything.
Is there even a Shining here? I guess I'll justc all @Shining Armor That guy is probably not active at all tough.
First, I'm still not getting messages from here; and second, I was thinking more on "mlp lore extrapolation" related stuff, which is actually why I came here(FireKirby on the tube told me if I wanted more cool discussions, I could make an account here). Which isn't to say that a- er, from what I can tell: "A Jiggly-Puff possessing the face of John DeLancie"- isn't thought provoking or anything. In fact, it could also be Robert Downey Jr's face... wow, this is making my head spin. [DOUBLEPOST=1426979649][/DOUBLEPOST]Also, why is it that when I click on the forum, it puts me in a page that's different from this one? It's rather confusing, and I would like to clear it up please.
Lore eh? Do you want to talk about the headcanon. official canon, Fancanon? We haven't done that in a while so I'd be up for some discussion . Altough I'm going to sleep now.
I'm really hoping for some more changeling this season. Even if they are made up to be completely evil again. I think that they also have a episode to cater to bronys more? With a lot of Oc's appearing in it as background ponies?
Well if this entire season is gonna be primarily traversing places outside Equestria like people, perhaps we'll even get some background info on the changelings, if not see where they came from in the first place. ^_^
Ok, well being the late sleeper that I am, I'll try to start something. By the way, the discussions I had with FK123 were paragraphs long, but you don't have to format it like that if you don't want to. I guess I can see if there's anything to say about expanding on official canon like: What do you think about the world of Equestria? I'm interested in this because I'm not really sure where the writers are going to go with it/I'm concerned with how the world turns out. What I mean is: the world seems like such a vast and wonderful place that just begs a peek at what is to come, and the fans are begging to see places like Mainhattan, Saddle Arabia, and Filly Delphia; but it seems that when the main 6 arrive/deal with a problem in a certain place, the settings seem to be not as fleshed out as we would have hoped and leaves us wanting more without giving us much of anything. Two examples would be the Crystal Empire and the Everfree Forest; their premise was good, great even, but it fell short of what it could have been, like how instead of having the Forest of the Everfree be a place where dark and dangerous things roam, it turned out to be a place where the monsters are far away, shoddy, and easily defeated- not to mention also being a place where I could probably take my family out for a picnic. The Crystal Empire should have been a place where the landscape was brutal and hard, yet beautiful and wealthy, but it turned out to be a place for the main 6 to solve a problem and just leave. While I agree that the show should be mainly focusing on the contemporary issues of the main 6, context is what makes their tales so appealing, and therefore should be taken seriously albeit subtly. This also begs the question: Should they tackle some settings at all? The world is great, and I believe that the MLP team can really nail it if they had more donors and hours/days to work with, but the world's greatness comes also from its mysteriousness, the unknown. Just knowing that such places exist and having a brief explanation of said places is enough to get the fandom working hard at creating situations, and have those that aren't in the "creative category" can, for lack of a better term, "daydream" about the implications of such a place. When I heard about Manehattan, I thought, "Wow! A place where innovation exists even in a reality with magic? It must mean that the Earth Ponies are stepping up and finding better solutions to things without the drawbacks that comes with using magic. There must be so many ponies trying to get from place to place and more modern things going on that would overwhelm even Celestia!", but instead got a place where the setting only affected the main6 slightly(getting from place to place and renting rooms) with fewer ponies than there are in Ponyville and... another alicorn? Eh, I'll ignore that, but there should have at least been some sort of allusion to details like restaurants, offices, an administration of science, or even a zoo like in the real Manhattan, but was blown off for elbow room to illustrate the fashion industry. I mean, God knows that I don't want the animators to kill themselves making these backgrounds, but at least have the main6 reference them! I'm also not saying the team shouldn't have tried, but I am saying that they could have done it better with minimum effort and now has left ManeHattan unsatisfactory for some. What do you guys think? Should the writers and animators delve into detail the rest of the world in the seasons to come, or should they leave parts of it alone but put a real emphasis on the settings to provide a canvas for future people to work on? Or something else entirely? Thanks for taking a gander at this too.
Oh my! Now that's some text! I see what you mean for sure. I think the issue with them not fully fleshing out a location is that it is still a kids show and that they have to hurry to put out content in a timely manner since it is all for Profit after all. They are certainly catering a bit more towards us now tough. I hope that we'll see some good episodes this year and not a repeat of season 3... Altough the music in S3 was absolutely amazing. Fimfiction certainly has put out a lot of content just based on the names of things... i guess a lot of it may not exist if the writers would ahve defined the areas of the world more. I do wonder what stories would have come up in this case. Manehatten was certainly a bit undefined . but i think the areas things happened inw as only a small part of it. They only showed bits and pieces of the rest off the city.
I personally would prefer more locations being brought up in the show rather than having the existing ones fleshed out more. Allows for a lot more room to speculate rather than less.
I sort of agree with bringing up more locations as the damage has already been done with the ones that have already been visited to, (although I would like to see families having picnics in the Everfree and someone making a joke that implied that nobody really knew why the place was so dangerous). I bet the writers caught the "problem" with it and fixed it for next season. As for "making a repeat of season 3", that was hilarious, but in a way true. Any story with only one or two settings (or time of day for movies) gets boring unless you're really invested in the area from the beginning, ie. Ponyville because the personal attachment has already been established. Personally, I'd like to see places that aren't Ponyville 2.0 or Ponyville DLC: The shiny/edgy version. What I would really like to visit, that's pretty weird to say, is Canterlot, and I don't mean the posh and rich parts, but the poor and disheveled ones. We've already established that it's a snooty place where mares have pillows on their bottoms and stallions have wineglasses up their buzz- I mean in their pockets, but it would be nice to see that ponies have to work hard because of the imbalance of wealth(a bit like AppleJack except they don't like it). For a place we haven't visited before, I kind of want to see Saddle Arabia. The reason for that is: the main 6 are getting complacent when it comes to confrontation of beliefs, and it would be a fresh breather to see ponies not understanding why the heck they would do a certain thing/own a certain item and either banish/shun them for it while they try to reconcile with the people. It would also add new culture to the continent other than well, European and American culture. Really though, the gist of the conflict and difference in culture is basically: (1.) Disaster is happening in this place, we got to go to it then leave! (2.) We went to this place and disagreed on a local subject such as prices and food and (3.)Princess Celestia needs us to drop off magic on some evil dude that has no character- (oh look I've been proven wrong, hi John DeLancie! Where have you been?)- because you're evil... because you, erm... yay frienship!... Which isn't to say that this is what the show has devolved into, but it's getting a bit repetitive in that regard. What places do you guys want to see? They don't necessarily need to be incorporated into the show, it could be an idea, like a place made of marshmallows!... wait that's Pinkie's bellybutton, or what about a place made of gravy!.. wait, that's also Pinkie's bellybutton... This is harder than I thought. Eh, just make a Vinyl Scratch and Octavia episode and I'll be pretty happy. Edit: Yeah that was pretty badly worded I'll try harder next time, sorry.
