That was my initial thought. That and getting more valuable materials from the miners that they wouldn't normally put in the community storage. You literally just answered your question within the same paragraph. Prices can be regulated like they are in steam, on a demand/supply basis. Speaking of which, it would be awesome if we could get an auction house/marketplace-type place working. =3
It'd help if we could leave messages in the trading center, which at the moment is...what, those custom signs we can make in the outpost? Not exactly ideal. At the moment it sounds like we'd need an extra forum for trading things around, or only asking people who are in-game at the time, unless there's an up-to-date sign/book/text mod I'm missing.
I like all of this discussion -- were said server to be set up, how many of you are there that would join / play regularly? Thoughts on server sided characters?
I absolutely would. And I know a bunch of my friends, mainly @Midnight_Blitz , Mineshaft, Bladewing, and possibly Delos most likely would also. As for server-sided characters, I'd be all for it. One of the things I dislike most about Starbound is that, when joining a server, you can join in as a character with an absolutely ridiculous amount of stuff, regardless of how new the server is. That's actually one of the reasons I like Minecraft servers and dislike Terraria servers. You're always starting "from the ground up", and you know everyone before you did as well. No one started with full diamond. No one spawned with the materials for their mansion in their pockets. Most, if not all players build themselves up from a fresh start. I really like that about most Minecraft servers. So, if you can find a mod like that for the server, I am 100% on board with it.
oke--thanks for the info and feedback. I too feel that way about minecraft servers versus terraria servers.
In fairness, there's plugins for that in Terraria too, but I understand entirely. (Also, the things are sadly apparently easy to get around.)
Well, should we have a mod that forces server-side characters, I would assume using an exploit to get around the mod be against the rules of the server.
It looks like the choice of server-side characters or free-roaming characters are planned to eventually become part of the basic setup for servers. No word on when this particular "eventually" is set to take place.
Seems we aren't the only ones with economy on the brain. http://playstarbound.com/march-2nd-developing-the-economy/
