I've kinda always drawn since I was young...

Well they say just draw what you want over and over and you'll get better, which is a great way to do things...
But I have found when people say "Just draw whatever" I have too much freedom and can't decide on what to draw.
So when people give me interesting boundaries ("Draw a luna/fenniken) I enjoy that. (However "draw me doing X" gets boring after a while")

If you really want to get good, life drawing is the way Most drawing styles are derived from real life. They are simply distorting real life, changing the features to suit their style. This is the thing about using references. The really good artists are so good because after years of experience they have all these references in their head and can draw life without needing references.
Gesture drawing is another way to practice which helps make your drawing feel more spontaneous. It involves drawing a picture of something in motion within a few minutes, only getting a rough sketch. No details but just the gist of what you are drawing.

There are the fundamentals you can learn about too like forms, values or perspective etc. If you have a good understanding of these you should be able to draw just about anything. People who practice over and over usually can only draw what they know or are used to but if you understand these you can see that all things are made of basic shapes. Then you can apply the others to it.

If you just draw the same thing over and over you might get good at that but if you are drawing something new you have to start again. So it is good to get outside your comfort zone every once in a while.
