I would say that if more developers made there games linux friendly.

 

1400 dollars more for "just a computer"? Interesting logic.

Windows is good for its simplicity (well it was until Windows 8), easy to understand, and it automates everything (which is good for not having to do jack shit, but bad because windows is hiding a lot of the stuff it's doing from you.)

I'll use ubuntu as an example 'cause it's probably the simplest out of all the Linux OSes out there. Ubuntu might be a little more complicated at times, but it asks it if it wants to update first, and it presents all the things that need to update to you in a clear concise window. Installing it requires a little more know how, as to make sure that you don't wreck your entire hard drive, as well.
Sometimes installing programs in Ubuntu can be tricky as well, if it's not in a nice little .deb package or whatever. I can agree that problems like that make a Linux OS seem undesirable to many people who like stuff simple, and able to be used right off the bat. Hopefully they realize that with simplicity comes a lot of things being hidden from them though.

If the steam box achieves what Steam wants it to, then hopefully that will actually happen.

My computer is actually Dual booted with Windows 8 and Linux, windows 8 actually is nice in my opinion. Though I still prefer Ubuntu besides the fact of not being able to play a lot of games on it.

 

I've messed around with Windows 8 on my sister's computer, and I don't mind it, but there's a lot of stuff that makes it undesirable as an OS in my opinion. The app screen seems like a fustercluck with all the bloatware they give you, or what they think you would want. I don't like what they're trying to do with this whole app thing. Well it's understandable for tablets and such, but I really wish they had another version of Win8 that made more sense for PCs. I don't see how they can make an OS for both mobile devices and PCs and try to pass it off for both like that.

 

I'm actually gonna have to disagree with you there, the app screen is one of the only reason I love windows 8. Basically I just got rid of all of the useless stuff (uninstalled) and added things that I thought is or could be useful. It makes it to where I can take off everything on my desktop and just make things look nicer in my opinion.

Actually it IS possible to disable the app like screen and just have it look like windows 7/vista/xp etc. (with a menubar etc.)
