So I will start with this. I had this idea, and it seemed somewhat like I have seen it before and it was bugging me. I went over to my game collection stared at it for awhile. And it hit me. MegaMan ZX. Ok so if you know this game, it can put you somewhat in the frame of mind you need to better understand this idea. <This is long sorry.> Battle Suits. Not large Gundams (although it would be cool to have a jet mech that you can fly around planets that could also change into a large mech you can battle with.) Suits that offer advance complex abilities. The suits are made up of frames, metals, and gems. I like that they are using battery power as MP. Yet I feel with these suits, they will need something more complex to power them. Like planet core fragments. Which would be really hard to harvest. The power source would last a long time. But will drain over time. The down side is, you would have to destroy a planet to gain the fragments. <If they can create infinite amount of planets this will be ok.> Building a suit. First you will need to find a frame. Frames can have any where from 3 to 10 slots {Side note.} You can find one by completing quests, (maybe it is a prize item of a tribe of penguins and other animals/npcs,) or you can dig in ancient ruins and maybe find one. Once you find one you need to obtain lore about them. Found on planets, hidden text in caves, underground, or talked about by npcs. Once you know what metals do what, and what gems do what, you can start searching for the different metals and gems. All frames can be built to a point, but can not be built past that point, and cannot be deconstructed once started. If gems are procedurally generated you could have a very rare gem that is a mixed gem. Like a sapphire with a ruby center. This could add more complex mixtures of abilities the suits could have. The way the suit is used, you put it in your right mouse click. Right Click and then all of your armor and bonus equips are removed and are replaced with the parts you have on your frame/{suit.} If you have not build out some of the parts those slots are left empty. Or in the case you have a frame that has only 3 or 4 slots. Only those slots are filled, but you still un-equip all of your items. Helm, Breast, Leg, Left Click (Weapon/Skill), Right Click (Weapon/Skill), Bonus items (B1-5, if they have that meny slots.) The different Metals and Gems effect what type of suit you get. Lastly I will give my example. 3 armor pieces 2 Weapon/Skills 5 Bonus items. Max total of 10 slots. You have a frame that has 10 slots. Each slot needs to be mixed with a gem and a metal. Helm, Star Carbon with a ruby. (+15% fire protection.) Breast, Star Carbon with a ruby. (+20% fire protection.) Leg, Star Carbon with a ruby. (+10% fire protection.) Star Carbon Armor set bonus (+20% Speed <Light Metal>) Left Click, Palladium with a sapphire. (Chargeable buster <Metroid.> Ice> {Or a Ice Blade...) Right Click, Rhodium with a topaz. (Hold down for a full body shield.) B1,Silver with a sunstone. (More Health.) B2,Gold with a mystic quartz. (Half visible.) B3,Platinum with a opal. (Faster health regen.) B4,Osmium with a star moonstone. (Increase damage out put.) B5 ,Graviton Ore with a dendritic agate. (Constant Jet thrusters.) The frames can have a unlimited amount of combos with a endless amount of set bonuses. When you mix the metal and gems it can make either a state bonus or a hot key skill. This is or so in the bonus items. (Press f and create a glow around you. Press r and dash forward.) You get the idea. Thank you for your time. I hope you like the idea. And I hope at some level it can make it into the game. X
Ehhh isnt right click already used for the dual weilding system? i would also suggest a few things: -One kind of Core component needed to craft the battle suit to be found in the ruins of past alien civilizations. -A third resource of some kind that is hard to fill up, and that will power up the suit when you have it on. -Make the suit a customizable Godlike mode (I use the term losely) for a limited time like a lot of games lately (Kingdom of amalur reckoning mode, DMC Devil Trigger, etc)
What if the individual parts can be worn on their own as sort of bionic augmentations, but having all the pieces for the "set" adds a bonus?
How about you look at Starship Troopers (the book, cartoon, and RTS video game, not the movie and FPS game) where they had several grades of suits. The Scout Suit was basically the size of our current astronaut suits, and in fact I think Bungie copied these green armored suits when they designed Master Chief and the Mjolinar armor. It offered armor protection above that of an aramid fiber type personal armor, had minor muscular augmentation to negate weight and also provided protection from vacuum, sealing the user in from the environment. Move up a notch to Marauder armor, basically combat armor. It made the user appear as a large metallic gorilla. It had jump-jets useable for short burst or for 'bunny-hopping' style shooting where you skyline a hill, fire, and disappear before retaliation could occur. It gave superior protection but was bulkier and slower than the scout suits. Had a larger generator for more powerful weaponry, and in general just badassery packed onto a large frame. The Command suit was a bit larger still with same combat capabilities of the Marauder suit but also had a C3 package for command and control. This can be split into personal armor (what our soldiers use today), and light, medium, and large powered armor.
I like the idea of being able to customize the weapons on them, and I also really love the idea of getting a special set bonus for any combination of pieces instead of just matching pieces, but I don't like the idea of carrying the thing in your pocket and being able to switch between it using the right-click because it makes it seem like you are just swapping armor sets. I also don't like having to mine or farm the power source. Players will just stockpile it so that they never run out, like ammo. On top of that, I assume it will be more powerful than a player who isn't using it, so it doesn't seem well balanced for PvP (but that could be fixed by adding drawbacks). We will already have mechas in the form of vehicles, which I think works well enough.
You just dug up a thread where the last response was Mar-9-2012 lol. Only reason I am here is I made the last post on Mar-9-2012 and got an alert stating someone responded here. All the presumptions and suggestions made in this thread were before we knew ANYTHING about Starbound. The game wasn't even functional for the devs at the time I think, just an idea and a few mock-up drawings. So take everything said in here with a grain of salt. Except what I said, yeah By the way you need a tag that says 'Lazarus' since you bought this thread back from the dead
Yeah, I noticed that after I did it. I was looking at the brand-new suggestions feature to up-vote suggestions I liked. Apparently if you sort them by popularity, threads of the same popularity are listed from oldest to newest. I just didn't know until it was too late. I expect a lot more necros if this isn't changed...
Firstly, we now know that there is a limited, but a vast number of planets. So, I think having only to use one on the entire set would be better. We know that players have modules, so we can use those for the bonus items slots instead. This would make great for some sort of temporary 'super' form.
How about a kind of mech-exoskeleton? It could be a type of vehicle that you have to enter, it could have big guns and various other perks but still be fairly maneuverable inside of caves... Think of the new 'XCOM:enemy within' mech trooper people. It could be that sort of size and have large attachments, such as a drill or something...
