As the title states, I think it would be amusing (and awesome) to have craftable/dropable Midi Instruments (like the ones that are already in the game) that provide buffs to near by party members (Health Regen, immolation shield, thorns aura, Etc.) while have the ability to "shoot" notes at enemies (for slightly lower damage than guns that share the same tier). This way awesome Bands of Bards can preform songs together without having to switch to a weapon to kill stuff all the while listening/playing some sick Midi tunes! -Pixelbane
this is an awesome! I have friends that would buy the game just to stick around and play music on their violins while others smash some skulls!
The beauty of it is that the developers could make it as complex or as simple as they wanted to. For example, each Midi instrument Bard weapon has a certain number of song "styles/solo" (for lack of better words) that you can select in an interface similar to the current Midi song selection screen (so you select what song you want to play and the style with it). These styles don't change the Midi at all but rather just change what buff/attack you will get when you hold down LMB. Holding the LMB will extend the "solo"/buff or will continue to attack at the price of constant energy drain. The more beneficial the buff or higher damaging the attack is the more it costs in energy to use it. For example, a style/solo that gives +Health Regen might cost more energy per second than a +Movement Speed buff. The buffs strength that your Midi Instrument Bard Weapon can produce is directly related to the tier that it is in. High tier = Stronger more unique styles/solos. Maybe some later tier solos could be noclip (move/fall through blocks like they were water), flight, blood rage (vampire attacks), The Necronomicon Drudge (your attacks/enemy kills cause skeleton allies to spawn and fight for you for a set amount of time).
Vanguard uses something like this, might be interesting to read about. http://vanguard.wikia.com/wiki/Song_Composition_Guide I would love to be able to find original music in the game from towns and dungeons, that also caused these weird effects when played.
Wow, I played Vanguard a bit at it's launch awhile back but never knew about their really deep bard system! A system like Vanguard's would be too amazing *drooling*.
