Backing up not working?

I read somewhere that to undo the actions of a griefer, I could just back up my player folder before going on multiplayer, and if I get griefed, I could paste it in and it'd be like nothing happened. I just tested this out, and it doesn't work for some reason. Is there some other way I should be trying to back up my player folder?

I believe the server will store a serverside ship folder in its memory until it gets rebooted. You'd likely have to either reboot the server or ask for a reboot in order to load your clientside ship properly, though I'm not sure if there are any alternative methods.

Source: Tried to test this with my brothers, found that my ship wouldn't revert to a "restored" state until the hosted server was taken down.

EDIT: Solution could also be as seen below. :p

Try loading it up in singleplayer first.

I totally expected you to have a problem with your character only being able to walk forward.

I tested it using only single player.

What do you mean? When I tested it I backed up my player folder, changed something, and then put the back up folder back in my starbound folder. When I loaded it up, the change was still made.

Did you put it back into giraffe storage where it goes normally? Did you tell the computer to overwrite files named the same thing?

Every time you load the character, a new .backup file is made for your files. This means that once you've loaded up the character 3 times, all 3 backup files will be for those 3 times. Basically, it pushes them back for each time you start up the character. The oldest of the three is deleted, instead of pushed back.
