Awful Pixel System

Fair enough, just offered the tip because I didnt understand how you were going about mining. But ys I understand it isnt the most fun thing in the world, but it's a little better if you have a goal to work towards.

So you lose 30% when you die. Or you can deposit for 40% loss. You lose more if you deposit than a death, and you don't know if you'll die or not. So why use it at all

If there's going to be a bank, make it 10%. If not then why not leave the system as it is. Once you get to Tier 3 and you can survive it, Pixels aren't really something you worry about anymore

I don't see how anyone can really hate the pixel system after the first update in which they reduced the death penalty & heavily reduced pixel costs in crafting. I have literally thousands of pixels now and nothing to do with them. If anything, they're too irrelevant at the moment... I can see why the costs seemed so high in the beginning. I'm sure in their own tests, pixels seemed like they were too easy to come by and didn't have enough uses.

Even if you do need to grind pixels due to deaths or to craft a few high-end items, it doesn't take very long to get the necessary pixels (I've never had to grind them for anything more than 10 minutes), especially once you have the Refinery. I find mining more tedious and more of a grind in the game's current state.

I tried that, you gain new unique items MUCH faster than you gain enough pixels to scan them, so you end up with a ship full of containers and you never have time to print any furniture because you have to spend extra pixels to scan more furniture.

I don't think the pixel system is terrible at all. Love those generalizations though!

Honestly I don't get why people hate the death penalty. They act like it's the most idiotic thing ever implemented into games. And their logic? They should be able to die as often as they want with absolutely no penalty. Also, how do you not have enough pixels? I can get literally 1,000 pixels just walking for 5 minutes.

Because on a new planet with unknown enemies there is a risk of dying, and 40% beats losing everything you have. I went to a planet confident I could easily beat it, found the monsters were really fast, and ended up losing 4000 pixels before I explored the entire planet. I would have stored in a heartbeat.

You can die more than once and the penalty adds up. Even two deaths costs you 41% which is more than the deposit.

This will be less of a problem when you can sell extras of stuff you don't want to keep.

I certainly want a way to store pixels, but 40% loss is just ridiculous. That is effectively the same as dying twice at the old/new loss rate. Might as well just spend them all instead.

I'm not really understanding the problem people are having here, because it seems to me that the complaint here is that you have to actually use tactics when battling? That there is an actual incentive to not die? Isn't that the point of video games as a whole? This is like complaining that dying in Pac-Man makes you have to start your score over, thus making you play the game again, god forbid that happens...

I pretty much agree with this thought. I'm no fantastic player (still in Beta sector, even though I've beat the 2nd boss), yet I've never had a problem not having enough pixels that couldn't be rectified by a few minutes of spelunking in the deep caves.

Speaking on the topic of the death peanlty, I'd probably propose a 50% loss of pixels, but half of those (25% total pixels) drop at your death site, so you can try to go back for them. That way, death is harsh as it should be but it can be salvaged via redeeming yourself.

There's the demon boss you can fight if you revisit the prison from the beginning of the game

The first time you fight the demon, it's in this big room with some pots and stuff; when you go back, if you walk into the middle of the floor in that room, the floor suddenly collapses and drops you like a hundred feet, taking half your health, and then you're immediately attacked by the demon

First I thought I had made some kind of mistake, even though there is absolutely no indication that the floor will cave in like that until you step onto it, but after searching everywhere for another way down I couldn't find one

It's at least an optional boss fight, but the only way for you to get to it is to fall into a stupid trap that there's no way to see coming, over and over again if you don't beat him on your first try

You fight this massive monster on a floor that seems completely solid because of the way he's stomping around on it, but suddenly it just crumbles under you like a graham cracker? That's the game designers pulling a fast one on you and thinking they're clever

    Quoting for legendary truth.
Every single survival/rpg game has money sinks of some kind.
Getting a massive amount of currency and sticking with that number for the duration of your playthrough trivializes the entire economy.
The /one/ good thing about Voxels I can see is now there will be the possibility of a player-made economy on online servers.

At just two deaths I find the deposit quite lenient. If you're going to keep that for a very long time you can save yourself a ton of money. I think it is more than fair.

Please note the rest of the dev's comment. He states the death penalty for pixels increases back to 30%, but the cost of storing pixels is an additional 40%. When the cost of dying, as it is now, is 20%, it doesn't make too much sense to store pixels unless you want to prepare for a long mining run or a run for items on a high-tier planet. However, if the cost of dying is 30%... Well, that changes the situation entirely. Since you're pretty much always going to die sooner or later, I'd store my pixels at every opportunity. *shrugs* It's good fiscal sense.

the game isn't that difficult i have had no problems with it i just find it kind of a pain in the ass every thing is so high in cost why should i pay 40% to store my money on my ship or my house now if they made it an actual banker npc than maybe i could see paying it out

The problem some people have is that they want to just be able to steamroll everything in the game and being able to die and have a penalty on top of that prevents this for them. I personally think that's stupid but w/e

which is why i said they need difficulty levels but even that wouldn't satisfy people they would still moan and groan about that for some reason or another lol but what ever like you said people who don't like it and cant stand it can always mod it out but this is also beta they might ditch pixels all together in the end who knows

Because in every situation, you're benefiting from losing pixels. Death is the only way to lose pixels without gaining anything. Not to mention, as far as I'm able to understand, the game is about exploring the universe and traveling through the tiers of gear, not making money and keeping it forever without using it. The only way you'll get to the point of not losing pixels is to use pixels and play better. Not to mention, this is Beta. Tons of changes, tons of character wipes. You're going to lose all your pixels one way or another.
