Never really thought it was particularly bad. Just like money in other games. You lose gold when you die, that's the thrill of not dying without having permadeath or item loss.
Without that, one might as well suicide rush into bosses 50 times over until completion.

As for the pixel bank, meh. It might be tedious to constantly back up every 1k pixels. But then again, it would mean that you never lose more than 30% of 900 pixels on death.
Not too big of a deal, considering you can earn 500 pixels in 5 minutes on a threat level 11 planet.

No big deal really.Maybe if we need thousands of pixels, but after the very first bit of crafting you have to do, it's not an issue IMO.

It is stupid, because at best, the lack of pixel is just an annoying grind. Grind penalties in a game like this are nothing but irritating, if you ask me. The entire bloody game is designed as a long grind already, and the penalty for compression sounds just absurd. "It has to be bigger than dying"? No?

Why is this considered good? But then Starbound seems to prefer to just make annoying decisions instead of fun ones, until they eventually scrap it because it adds nothing positive to the game.

Sounds like the Pixel system is about to get even worse.

Ive been thinking the same thing. They've been focused on making some pretty bad design choices and sticking to them instead of listening to loads of people that hate some of their choices.

What about it do you think is absolute garbage?
How do you think this is going to make it worse?

Have you even played Starbound? Die 2-3 times, and every pixel you have is gone. Crafting a simple weapon/armor costs an arm and a leg. The devs heard people complaining and decided to add in a fan made mod, which now has drawbacks thanks to Tiy. "Hey guys, you can store pixels, but you lose 40% of them upon compression. The cost has to be greater than the cost of you dying." The death/pixel penalty sucks, and so does the bank penalty. They're trying to make Starbound difficult solely for the sake of being difficult, which is not good. Take Dark Souls, for example. That game is hard (not insanely hard like people make it out to be) but it was hard for the RIGHT reasons. Starbound has no good reasons for the difficulty that's being implemented.

I think the Pixel Compressor should operate at 50% efficiency ratio. Meaning you need to put in 2K pixels to get 1K pixel bar out.

It would mean a cost to storage safety, making you choose between safe money and quick money, not both.

The pixel grind isn't as bad now. Ways to store your pixels even at a loss is appreciated, and it's cheaper than dying twice. Better than what we have right now, where dying twice costs you 36% of your store pixels, and you'd die over and over and over without any way to hold things together. Besides, they didn't to the best of my knowledge remove the extra pixels that have been dropping from monsters or the reduced cost of the pixels for item crafting.

Also, the .json files exist. Those items can be modded to be loss less in less than a minute.

Having to grind to earn Pixels for crafting will be lame, especially considering A. we can't sell items/gear to merchants yet, and B. we will lose about a third of the Pixel we've earned if we die.

This is going to lead to a shitty item in the game that no one will use (pixel compressor) because the best way to grind for pixels will be to get a high-level weapon and travel to a low-level planet and kill the mobs. There's no fun or adventure in that. It's just boring grinding that will be necessary to make it to the next level of armor, craft the robot boss, etc.

I still don't understand why people have such a problem with the way pixels are handled. A single dungeon will net you thousands of pixels, and if that still isn't enough the refinery converts your ores and bars into even more.

TBH, If you are dying so much that you're losing pixels, Either:
    1. Get better armor
    2. Learn to Dodge/Jump, And Learn attacks/Weaknesses. You Can't win like you did in Terraria by running up to something and hitting it until it dies. You NEED To Jump

Dark Souls actually isn't a very good example

For all of the good, enjoyable challenges that game offers, it also has several completely stupid design elements that basically catch you in "gotcha" moments

Like cautiously stepping out onto that bridge in the undead burg, only to be instantly obliterated from behind because the dragon moved to sit on the tower right above you

Or being in the middle of fighting one of the black knights, trying to pause the game because the phone is ringing, and realizing that there is no way to pause in singleplayer

I've also read that there's one part in a fortress you have to visit where one of the many statues in the halls will suddenly come alive and attack you... after passing a bunch of other ones safely and possibly coming to the conclusion that they aren't a threat

Pixel are basically a hybrid money/experience system tied to the gear so it is grinding. What do people have against grinding I love it in rpgs. Also I think most people fear death lol but they seem to be making it easier in the next big patch changing the level system and removing the penetration and armor system that had some people confused.

Not only that, you can leave the pixels in there indefinitely. They persist between loads of the game. As such, the Refinery is essentially a piggy bank for your pixels. I guess there is probably some kind of stack limit to them, so at some point you'd have to withdraw, but even then, right clicking will take only HALF of the pixels in the refinery out, so it still leaves you with a hefty backup. I, too, hate the pixel loss at death, but que sera.

40% cost just to bank your pixels wow. I guess this is Starbound's entry into Obamacare.

I need lots of pixels to buy better gear and make more stuff.

But more often than not I don't have a ton of pixels, so I end up grinding on monsters to get the gold for about 10 minutes (which is rather boring).
Grinding ain't fun to most people.

No offense, but you people seem to forget that this is a BETA, holy crap Tiy probably wants to see how the people like this or that. Get over it the game will change every week and if your going to complain, stop playing the game. Leave and don't look back until its finished. Then come back and rave that you played beta and you WEREN'T a B&$!% about it. The pixel system as it is needs work, but the system WORKS, a way to store money, a way to sell items, and the system is perfect.
