I don't know the restraints on the character creation process, or the constraints on the model dimensions; but I think it would be awesome if the avians could have tail feathers. My wife and I are avid birders and one of the things we love most about birds is the bunches of different types of tail feathers that they can have, and we'd love to see these in game! Even if they were just items to be worn in the cosmetic back slot, it would be very cool!
Similarly, Apex and Fishes could also do with some tails, even Glitch and Floran could get some funky things back there. Don't know about humans though.
I agree with this! It wouldn't even have to be different styles, tail feathers in general for Avians would really help their design come together. Of course, having the option for multiple types would be fantastic.
I did some digging through the forums here and the word is that both the avians and the apex were supposed to have tails but there was an issue with the "tail layer" clipping through the "armor layer" on the sprite. I am hoping that because the game is still in early beta, that they will figure it out. Personally, I don't know why it can't be a part of the sprites main layer and have the tail sticking out the back, but I guess that's why I am not the graphic artist for this game.
That's what I was thinking. It'd probably look just fine on a layer "behind" the clothing/armor layer, like the rest of the body sprite.
Yes, please! I think it'd be amazing if avians could have tail feathers, it just seems weird that they don't. It seems at least in my eyes that they would have 'em and it'd really help bring the look of the character together. Even if there's some issues with them, the game's still in Beta, a tail can't be that hard to implement, can it? It'd be worth the effort, at least to me.
Because, initially they were able to fly, if you read the lore, they clipped their own wings, so naturally they would still have their tail feathers.
yea, I doubt that they have had their wings clipped for so long that they would loose the evolutionary need for tail feathers.
The lore around them being able to fly stated that the Avians themselves believed that they lost their ability to fly upon entering the mortal realm. Unless I interpreted it differently it never says they were actually able to fly. Sorry if I'm incorrect.
That the Apex and Avians were supposed to have tails as intended by Chucklefish means the devs may already be working on this. If they are not, they need know that we won't mind if it is a simple addition. We don't need tails disappearing when you equip various armor. We are happy enough that tails will exist. I am content with any minor problems that exist. Nothing is perfect.
Did some looking around at the different types of lower body armor, and to me it looks as if this could be included on the main body sprite by having it positioned to be angled down/backwards. In most cases it would just appear as though the tail feathers are poking out the back of the armor. Even the different types of armor that move seem as though they wouldn't present too much of an issue, at worst it looks like there'd be a misplaced pixel or two. Having a small tuft poking upwards would possibly work as well, as long as it's layered to be behind any torso armor. I guess the only actual problem would be the different types of capes/packs? I haven't seen enough ingame to know how many of these would present an issue, though.
