This gave me flashbacks to all of the billions of "Directed by M Night Shamalamadingong" jokes on reddit.

Nobody knows how to beat a dead horse quite like reddit.

 

One thing that's not been taken into account is the speed in which the Floran spread. While a hive and tribal society has been mentioned I don't think we have seen that Florans procreate any faster then the other races. So while somthing like the Zerg have numerous but disposable troops it seems like the Florans just found new planetary locations to thrive. Not nessarly spreading like locus.

 

Florans are plants. Plants multiply a hell of a lot faster than humans.

 

Some do, some don't. Its not like we have any humanoid plants to make a good comparison to anyway.

 

People seem to not be able to take Floran psychology into account here. Florans regard animals (and sentient races) in the same exact way we do plants. They're just as likely to ignore you or try to kill you if they're hungry. No xenophobia or any of that other nonsense. You are food or you're something pretty to maybe glance at and more likely than not later eat. All this ethics stuff regarding Avians and Florans is frankly, preposterous because a whole lot of people are assuming Florans think the same as us. Florans as a whole simply don't have the capacity to see intelligent life as intelligent unless you get a crazy one by itself. What if you suddenly came to the realization that plants can have feelings and can talk? You'd go insane because no one would believe you.

You have to keep in mind here, in Starbound, if you're traveling the stars you're a complete outcast from your own kind. Avians that break away from their religious culture are called the Grounded because they'll never never earn their wings according to the commonly accepted religion. Taking a direct quote here: "...these Avians become outcasts and find solace amongst other races." this leads me to believe that there are significantly more Grounded that travel the stars than religious Avians. Self aware planetside Glitch are killed as witches. I assume that solo traveling Apex have managed to escape from the MiniKnog. Florans that are alone for an extended period of time will probably start talking with animals as they descend into madness (think of Luke Graham in Mission to Mars), eventually being able to connect with other life. The rest of the races are really up in the air, but I like the trend that Starbound is going in. Travelers have historically been the rejects of society, which is why they've rarely been trusted since they tend to cause trouble.

 

I'd point to it and say: "Hey guys, look at this bipedal talking plant right next to me". Its hardly the same as talking to a tree or something.

 

I wonder if we will see these relations come into play frequently in game.... (I want to visit developed worlds too not just random undeveloped ones......)

 

I'm talking specifically about trees and flowers. Things that are just resources to us.

 

Your comparison is like comparing humans and florans to squirrels and cactus. Intelligence changes everything.

Because we can totally generalize that based solely on a few line of an incomplete journal entry for an entirely different race.

Oh yeah, because six completely different races of different appearance, genetic structure, and culture all think the same way. Makes perfect sense.

Guys STFU you both have valid points that havent been confirmed and neither of you will be right untill it is confirmed so just be nice to each other and wait until one of you actually is right. Which may be neither, Maybe florans can conceive the possibility of intelligent life and they just dont care? Or maybe one of you is right. But you wont figure it out by arguing.
