Good news, everyone! I'm still technically alive.

So the new ship's the old add-on ship? I feel stupid for redownloading and copying it again :S

Same reason there are aerotech blades on Avali swords? Avali seem to love orange transparent crystals, and put them on their ships too. At least it's consistent!

And the glass cockpit actually looks rather cool, and I love how the pilot's chair is right next to the window in all versions of the ship, unlike vanilla ships.

The one bit of feedback I would make, however, is that the ship should be a little more balanced. It looks like most of the upgrade room goes down, and you get this huge area below the cockpit and very little above the cockpit. I would have taken a room or two from the very bottom of the ship and put it up either behind or above the cockpit, but then I suppose every vanilla ship does that so they wanted something different with the Avali ships, so I can't really blame them. It just merely makes Pulse Jump a necessity for navigating your own ship.

Either that, or lots of platform ladders.

    EDIT: @Ancev Caine :

Oh, I highly doubt that would stop people from making r34 if they really wanted to. The fur fandom these days will go to ridiculous lengths to modify stuff to make it work. I was just pleasantly surprised that none of that stuff made it's way onto GI.

Well, I've seen a few pics of cool-looking bases that I can draw some inspiration from, as to what block types to use. I did notice, however, how most of the Avali blocks all take steel blocks (except for the tent stuff) and that will be a ridiculous amount of Steel to make a base out of the Avali blocks. Thankfully, I also run Frackin'Universe as I mentioned, and Metal Moons are filled with stuff that you can make steel out of, lol. Including Steel Blocks.

Just because someone likes swords doesn't mean they're gonna just glue a bunch of giant swords to their car!
Also avali don't use glass cockpits or any windows whatsoever according to the wiki.

They use amber transparent crystal for a LOT of stuff, though. Their swords, their LCD displays, there's orange glass you can make, orange crystal plant decorations, the teleporters have orange crystal on them.

I think the orange crystal wings on the ship look cool personally. They kinda look like feathers in a weird way, like the ship itself is kinda like an elongated raptor head, and the aerotech blades are like the feathers.

Really, the only real leet haxor issue with the ship is you can set a crafting table under the pilot seat and access inter-system flight too early, unless you just can't move after doing so or something :S

Yeah, I'm of an opinion that for consistency's sake, there should be a horizontal hatch underneath the fuel station that is closed until the engines are repaired.

Aerogel is frozen smoke and it is extremely brittle. The only reason it's on weapons is because it is easily printable from the components on the weapons themselves. However at such a large scale on a ship... One meteor could cripple the ship until it had the chance to completely re-print it. Scrival is also correct with the no windows thing. They use nural uplink to see 360 degrees around the whole ship.

Probably because it's a door. Chances are whoever wants to open the door isn't using mind powers on the ship.
Yes, but only the aerotech weapons have those separated segments.

By the way LCD stands for liquid crystal display, not frozen smoke display.
    Aerogel, A.K.A. NOT CRYSTAL

Okay, so HOW is one supposed to actually place Tent Entrances?

It keeps wanting to place it backwards and for any other placeable furniture, you simply take a step in the other direction and it reverses the direction.... but not these tent pieces. I cannot, cannot, cannot get it to place the tent entrance properly whatsoever, it keeps wanting to put it on backwards no matter how much I move around it, which side of it I stand on, etc, I cannot get it to turn around at all.

The tents look awesome, but actually trying to PLACE the furniture bits is a nightmare.

Oh you need to just put up some dirt blocks and place it against that. Works for me.

  12. Xylia

    Xylia Tiy's Beard

Yeah, but how are you supposed to know where to put the dirt block to get it to line up with the rest of the tent?

    This is what I mean:

I got the first tent entrance placed, and the two roof pieces (I want to make a small teleporter tent). Trying to place the other entrance, and... nope. Move the mouse cursor to the right just a tad and it zips forward:

Note, I only moved the mouse cursor -1- block to the right and the tent entrance zipped way over there. It DID turn around, BUT IN THE WRONG FREAKING SPOT.

So, I try moving so I can face left...

ARRRRRRRGH why does this have to be so hard!?

Also tried standing way over by the torch, still didn't work, the placement was STILL backward.

Put dirt blocks where it's trying to be in the wrong direction so it's forced to be the other way around.

Obviously a lot of love went into the new ship, but is there a way to get the old one on new characters? I'm rather partial to the old design.

A lot of love and throwing lore outside the window because "It looks cool! I can have giant swords on my ship if I want to!"
You wanna find this file in the mod folder:

Danke. Aren't the fins for dissipating heat?

  17. Xylia

    Xylia Tiy's Beard

Heatsinks do not work in a vacuum, lol.

The whole point behind a heatsink (or anything that works on the same principle) is convection which is the process where heat leaves something that is hot and goes to something that is cooler, which is usually air or water. Said air or water flows through the heatsink and carries away the heat, as more heat comes to the heatsink from whatever it is you're trying to cool down.

This obviously would not work in space.

I'm still of a mind that those orange fins are supposed to resemble feathers.

There are other ways to transmit heat than convection--otherwise Earth would be a frozen ball. The fins could emit radiation.

Looked at the wiki: original design had the fins as heat sinks, but of a rather different design. Avali space combat works around a cycle of "internalize heat during combat, retreat to cover and dump it, repeat."

Would it really work? Heck if I know, but that's what Ryujiin came up with. At least, I think he did. He's said that noe everything on the wiki is really accurate anymore, but the drawing below is his, so he came up with heat sinks at least.

Well, I just know that heatsinks by themselves don't work in space. Now, if you use some kinda sci-fi tech to release it as radiation or something, well. I suppose that's possible.

Heatsinks are just devices that draw heat away from places the produce heat so they can be transferred to the radiators, which actually dump the heat. Now in space the heat won't transfer due to a vacuum being an almost perfect insulator, true. However heat decays into infrared light, which has no trouble propagating in a vacuum. As for aerogel radiators... aerogel is also a great insulator, making it a terrible material for radiators. Graphene on the other hand, conducts energy amazingly well.
