agreed! also, a lil tip i found while trying to find one of the mods there, if you go to the mods page in steam it shows a modID in the web address, thats the folder number you need to look in.

Also the tags are great on this mod

Equipping or otherwise holding the Avali Grappling hook causes my character to crash. So now I have an item in my inventory that I can't remove.

You can shift click it into containers.
Acquire the terramart shipments from the Terramart, and shift click the grappling hook in there. Then ship it off to space, never to be seen again.

Ah didn't think of that. And I would do that if only my game wouldn't crash upon opening that character now. RIP.

So I see the block recipes have been updated to a 1 bar to 2 blocks ratio, and that seems pretty expensive compared to most the vanilla metal blocks (1 : 30 or 1 : 50 is typical). Is there a particular reason for this high cost?

the reason is that if you construct a block out of approximately 1/30th to 1/50th of an ingot of metal, the block ends up having an extremely low density. such a low density in fact that the blocks become lighter than air, and we have found that it gives structures a tendency to just float away on the breeze, usually ending up somewhere in the upper mesosphere to lower thermosphere region. this results in two very serious problems, the first and most obvious of which is that your house has floated away, so you no longer have anywhere to sleep or store the massive quantities of dirt and stone that you will eventually amass while exploring the galaxy, and the second of which is that all those houses in the upper mesosphere cause quite a lot of interference for transporters and, in fact, pose a great deal of danger to anything else up there, such as baby space whales which have not yet grown up enough to survive the cold vacuum of space, and thus live in the slightly less cold and vacuous upper atmospheres of planets, feeding on solar radiation and stray gamma ray bursts until such a time as they are ready to embark on their journey into the great black void between galaxies. thus, to save both your house and the baby space whales, our R&D department has put in a great deal of effort to find the optimum density for a block of tungsten, so that it is heavy enough to remain firmly planted upon the ground, yet not so heavy that it takes a great deal of overexertion to pick it up and move it around. that density just so happens to require it to be made out of approximately half an ingot.

in all honesty, i dont actually know. it does seem pretty expensive though, so whenever i need tungsten blocks i just adminhax them in. and yes, i did write all of this at 3.30 in the morning, and i am very tired right now, so i'm going to sleep.

I'm not going to me messing with anything like this until Ryuu finishes with his rewrite, at which point I'll compare between Triage and the rewrite. Anything explicitly in the rewrite is getting the axe (And stuff like blocks and materials are likely to make it into the rewrite, along with their corresponding recipes, so it'd be a waste for me to fix it only for Ryuu to fix it a different way, potentially confusing people).

This is the policy I'm taking right now with just about anything that's not a full-out crash (like the grappling hook error). If the change isn't necessary to make the mod playable again, the change isn't likely to make it into the mod, at least not until we can be certain where the main mod will lie. Thus far there's been a little communication with Ryuujin about stuff that may or may not make the cut, but this communication was full of hypotheticals and was made early on in the development of the main mod, and there are bound to be changes to what he's keeping and what he's scrapping. (I can also mention a few things that are very likely to be chopped from the main mod and are therefore most likely safe for us to edit, but it's honestly easier to ride it all out and see what we're left with in the end.)

While I understand your desire to keep in line with Ryujiin's wishes, please remember that until the unspecified and potentially quite far off date at which he completes the reboot, Triage is the avali mod for 1.0, so fixing it to make it more playable now and then having to fix it again later is not a waste of time (at least for small but important details like recipes). Many, many people will be playing this, so the better you make this mod, the better it is for people who want to play avali. And while I'm not privy to the details of the reboot, I get the distinct impression that it's going to be quite some time before Ryujiin finishes it.

Building is one of the huge features of Starbound, and right now it's a lot harder to use the avali's blocks than everybody else's.

And for me specifically, I'm running a let's play. Viewers don't like it when I just /admin to spawn unlimited blocks. Replacing items lost to bugs, sure, but circumventing the built in recipes? Not so much.

Oh come on edit the mod yourself, instafix.

  19. YellowDemonHurlr

I guess I could, though I should point out that's not really something most people can do. Should I submit the altered files for inclusion?

So long as they're in line (or close) with vanilla, sure.
