    Mackinz The Waste of Time

I don't recommend installing mods on a pirated version of Starbound but the Version History has older versions of the mod. Whether or not one is compatible with Upbeat Giraffe depends on the date it was uploaded.

  7. Dragonclaw

    Dragonclaw Supernova

When I got an updated version of the mod, I upgraded my ship and now there's a fuel hatch on the outside. Is there any way to remove it? I'm fine if I can't though.

  8. Scival

    Scival Oxygen Tank

That's like not recommending to install mods on Starbound. Seriously, it works fine. It just sounds like you're not recommending to pirate Starbound in the first place.

  9. Mackinz

    Mackinz The Waste of Time

That and any problems one faces installing an old version of a mod on an outdates version of the game could not be addressed by anyone for that user.

  10. YellowDemonHurlr

    YellowDemonHurlr Ketchup Robot

There are legitimate reasons to play old versions of the game. Maybe someone found a mod that they really want to use, but hasn't been updated. That's absolutely a thing in other in-development games like Minecraft.

And then there are weirdos like me. When I began my machinima many months ago, I duplicated my Starbound installation and used that to shoot my videos so it would be locked to that version and I wouldn't have to worry about updating mods or changes in gameplay throwing off my plans. Everything would stay consistant and predicable.

While you are correct, that really doesn't apply very well to Starbound. There are very few mods that are so complex that a single game update does more than partially break a few of their files, which are always pretty damn easy to fix by just removing/editing a single line in one of the .json files (and while the CTD message that the launcher gives is FAR from perfect, it usually gives you enough information to nail down the issue's source).

...Hell, I'd say at least 80% of the time, an update-broken mod simply needs to damn VERSION STRING in it's descriptor file to be changed to get it to work perfectly again. =.=

  12. Mackinz

    Mackinz The Waste of Time

That used to be the case, until Chucklefish made the version string completely irrelevant. That's why Ryuujin's Avian Tail Feathers still works just fine, even though the modinfo still says Enraged Koala.

Uh, yeah - I was about to come and post an edit, as I noticed that while troubleshooting the broken pile of molten slag that used to be my load order. :L
It's very heartening to see that the error messages are still just as vague as they used to be (as I stated above, they're enough to HELP you pinpoint errors, but it doesn't even tell you the name of the file for most things ffs, even though it CLEARLY can tell what file is erroring out...).
Also glad to see the devs continue to spit on modding by making CONSTANT removal of files, changing file location, etc. when every other game that supports modding.... doesn't do this, and just leaves the files in as decrepit older version support.
The removal of items is the dumbest example of this - just remove the things from the recipes and leave the damn files in! Are you really concerned that the 64x64 2.5kb image file is taking too much space or something???

For example, I had to unpack all the files, then hunt around for where the "cursors.png" file had been moved to so I could get rid of the ugly and very easy to lose track of red cursor and put my nice easy to see yellow one back (and then I had to make a bunch of edits to the image file anyways as they'd added new cursor types as well lol).

    ---
But I digress. I haven't circled back to Starbound since... right after the 1.0 update (w.e. they called it), soooo... well over a year I think, and a lot seems to have changed pertaining to mods... =.=

By the way, when did they remove/alter random shield generation? That was probably the most prevalent error I had - claims that item "generatredshield" did not exist (probably because, oh I don't know, IT NEVER DID *cough*). >_<

But 1.0 isn't even out yet.

I said I did not remember WTF the update was called. Maybe if they didn't name all their updates meaningless non-sequential *WORDS* tagged onto an equally meaningless animal name I be able to remember WTF they were called and also WTF version we are even on...

It was the big one that added more quests, tiered ships, that world teleport gate thing, and the Novakid race (among lots of other stuff).

So... it really has been a very long time since I played, but you seem to have forgotten to add the recipes for my Avali Tech Bow's Weapon Rack version. The files are all in there for the objects, but the recipes are not... :L
You also never credited me in the "Credits" section in the description.

EDIT: I figured out how to add a pull request correctly on the Github repository, so I added the four missing .recipe files there: https://github.com/Fevix/Avali/pull/146

I was bored, so I made two Avali things:

    1) A usable spear weapon based off of that old weapon rack's spear:

*Ignore the OP damage and the name on the first image, I simply overwrote the T9 spear and buffed the damage a lot for testing purposes.

    2) An Avali version of the "Ice Axe", which I called "Avali Climbing Axe":

Both are working (and looking) to my satisfaction, but I'm not sure what I wanna *do* with them.
Since the people working on this mod are a bit... MIA atm, I'm considering just releasing both of these in some kind of "Misc Avali Stuff" mod for now... n.nU

I’m guessing the looming 1.0 release is at least partially responsible for the absence. The mod’s stable for the current version, nothing really there to fix at the moment, so might as well save further development work until the update turns everything on its head, assess what the damage is, and then get everything sorted and ready to go all at once for the new version.

That’s my theory anyway. I could be wrong. Making your own Misc. Avali Stuff mod in the meantime sounds good to me, though you could also upload your work to github as well.

Mmm. I did put one pull request over there already when I realized they did not merge my Tech Bow mod properly, and the recipes for the weapon rack versions were missing (honestly the rack version probably took me LONGER to make than the bow did lmfao, because there's like, 50 frames, and if I'd made ONE *TINY* mistake, it would have WRECKED all the frames after the mistake one and made me redo them all...).

...But despite all my work, I still feel a bit of an ameture-ish pixel artist, so I would also like some feedback on what I've posted before I go forward lol:
    -Looks good?
    -X should be altered?
    -Idk lol.

Still trying to fill in some "gaps" in Avali-themed stuff lol. Working on a Rocket Launcher at the moment.

    WIP:

The sprite still needs some work - the highlight colors are a bit "off" still I think, but I'd love to get a second opinion! n.nU

Also the name and stats are subject to change - I'm unable to figure out if the 2 letters in front of the Avali weapon names actually mean anything for one, and also I'd prefer to make this an "active" item so it can have a special.

I'm just having a bit of trouble with the undocumented mess of new code functions for them (and I've always sucked at Java as well lol).
Additionally, there simply aren't any "vanilla" rocket launchers for me to reverse engineer a .json file off of, as they are all "randomly generated" stuff. I even tried to find a weapon mod that had launchers that I could bank off of, but I found nothing that used the new "active" type... =.=

Oh, and I've started to consolidate all the new stuff I made into a separate mod for now. I will release them as "Avali Misc Stuff" once the Rocket Launcher is done! :]
