WIP Avali (Triage) Community Dev Thread

    Done. Didn't touch the internal identifiers for the ramp platforms, so nothing bad should happen.[DOUBLEPOST=1430610451][/DOUBLEPOST]For whatever reason it's using the avaliplatform.png rather than the avalistairs.png I told it to. Confusing...

    Figured it out. Also made aeroponics tubes paintable again.

    Patched the Avali Grapple to be crafted at the Nanolathe for 20 durasteel, 4 climbing rope, 10 aerogel, and 10 graphene.

    Remove the old tool folder and place the new on in the items folder then place the grapple into the recipe folder.

    I found out that throwing weapons don't have a fixed damage but rather a damage multiplier, and the output damage varies depending on the planet level, so I can't really tier them up to level 10, they would be too OP, so I guess I'll do just 1 of 2 more tiers, increasing the multiplier value, and move it back to the workbench so there's no need to modify the .species file

    If you make the upper tiers require the tier 1 and some extra stuff, that seems like more what the weapon workbench is designed for, modifying weapons.
    Brand new weapons like the swords and such are already crafted at the various vanilla crafting stations.

    Bah. I'm trying to flip the Plated Door the Avali can craft so that it opens horizontally so I can use them on my ship, but I can't get the damn thing to be placeable... I don't understand where I'm going wrong :/ Anyone fancy taking a look at the files to see if I'm missing something?

    Try to match the files to be like the lunar base hatch, that might work.

    In fact it did work, here (includes object and recipe) is a vertical tech door. Its quite nifty!

    Added in! Can we get the same treatment for the other doors? (Not the camp door, that would look strange to have it 'fall' to the side and sit there in a neat pile. Perhaps some other idea for a vertical camp door?)

    Huh. I wonder why it didn't work for me? All I changed on the mining hatch .object file was stuff like which .png it pointed to, the name, and the description... Oh well.

    found a new item hidden in the mod files
    this times is a "flowing scarf", and it's a back slot
    speaking of which, i thought of additionally to the new pilum tiers, i could work on some drones for the avali
    i know there are already a few mods that add drones in general (light drones, your starbound crew), but according to avali lore they use drones in combat, so it'd make sense adding drones as back items, and each drone giving different "buffs"
    light, more armour, more health, more energy, status effects like bouncy, floating, high jumps, etc

    i would need help though, i have no idea how all of these efefcts work

    UPDATE:
    it seems that the scarf is indeed craftable, but in the description it says it's a head item, but listed as a chest one
    ok, you find it in the loom, it says "head slot", but is actually a back slot, maybe we should fix this?
    ok i found the issue
    there are 2 items called the same, one for head and one for back, but only one is craftable in-game[DOUBLEPOST=1430727140][/DOUBLEPOST]alright here is the fix for it

    additionally to the instructions in the zip, if you want to include it in the official mod, for the sake of cleaning up unused files, you should delete the following files

    there is a problem with the item which is that i haven't managed to get the "preview" image to work (this is, the image you see in the big grey box to the right (Product) in any crafting station)

    That's actually an issue with several other Avali cosmetic items for some reason, and I'm still not sure why it happens.

    Also, the scarves and collar were presumably made back items so that they could be worn alongside other items that take up the chest slot, like sleeves. Otherwise you've have to choose between them and that's no fun ;P

    I forgot to mention: because I love writing and I also love all the background fluff on the Avali, I'm writing a bunch of codexes :D Not that they'll ever actually make it in-game, but it's fun anyway. Just gotta work out what sort of character/length limit there is on individual pages.

    I'd really want to read more on them in-game. Who knows, they could be named something like "the avali report #x" and look like the recordings of another adventurer. :3

    Actually, Starbound should have a lot more codexes on how each race interacted with the other and met each other the first time.

    Well, at the minute it's just infodumping. I'm not sure other races would have much of an insight on how, say, Avali biology has adapted to an ammonia-rich atmosphere :p

    Also having them as back slots rather than head slot makes it possible to go full avali, with a helmet, sleeves, armour or body clothing and the scarf

    I'm actually releasing an unofficial addon/expansion soon including all the changes + additions I'm making that aren't part of the main mod, and that patch will be included (likely along with some more colours for feathers/trim). :)

    As an aside, the codexes are coming along swimmingly. All I'm doing is paraphrasing the information we already have, but that still adds up to - as of right now - six fairly hefty codexes... and I'm not even remotely done yet.
