Have you ever boiled a pot of water on a campfire? Fire is hot. Comparing the boiling point of ammonia to water alone is irrelevant when the heat source is hotter than both.

Would boiling ammonia in tissues not have a similar cooling effect, though?

If their tissues were naturally flammable, then I could see fire being an issue. Though on that note I think the dissolved methane in their blood would ignite waaaay before the ammonia solvent in their tissues would even come close.
It just really irks me when people automatically assume colder than human = naturally weak to fire.

 

Except the fact that when a core temperature is lower they are more adversely affected by fire. Stick a human within 10 feet of a bonfire, they'll feel pretty hot. Stick an Avali the same distance away, and they'll feel a lot more than "hot", if they stay near it long enough. Flinging both directly into a fire would lead to the same results, of course.

 

Well if you're talking about typical flame throwers they spew a flamable gel or liquid so being flammable or not if the gel's stuck on there it's gonna' bring a world of hurt on you reguardless.

I think what people are more talking about is "glancing" hits so to speak when the fire comes close would cause the Avali more discomfort and possibly damage than it would to humans. Like you know a big bonfire? It's really hot but you can still stand pretty close to it where as an Avali would probably not be able to stand that close.

But yeah, direct hits you'd be fried reguardless.

Everyone's misudnerstanding what I'm saying about fire because you're all looking at it as humans. When you think fire you're saying "hey, humans can be burned!". The reality is humans can be burned, but they don't BURN. There are potential lifeforms and biologies out there that are actively flammable. Even birds and stuff have flammable body covering, but there are also theoretical biologies that would burn to the ground completely if ignited; or even explode

Humans by contrast are physically impossible to ignite. Ammonia doesn't burn, so Avali would have similar resistance properties, though their feathers are almost certainly flammable. Probably more-so than bird feathers, plus they have a lower heat threshold (Difference between core temperature, and burn injury temperature)

If the Whom Gods Destroy is something to go off of (I never played Spore), their blood is light purple.
