You want extremely hostile environment for an Avali... try a Deep Ocean planet... No dry landmass what-so-ever. If there is any to build on it's under da water.

    It's a nice big ship.
Bigger than most Avali ships but still it looks nice so far...

What's more extreme about this is that its hard to explore under water because... well... your movement is very slow in water. We need a mod for underwater exploration! Skimming the surface is easy to do with a mod that adds vehicles. Madtulips mod is in a sense one with it's racial shuttlecraft tech... still can't explore all the narrow tunnels though and find any interesting loot under the ocean surface in said tunnels.

I'm sure they have martial arts (probably a huge number, like with human martial arts). Even if their strategy when unarmed is to escape conflict, they could have martial arts about escaping holds, tripping and incapacitating enemies, striking with minimal contact.

This actually seems pretty likely to me, since when unarmed or otherwise at a disadvantage, their way of thinking is about getting away and finding an advantage to exploit. Hit and run.

Why was everyone thinking flaming weapons would be "super effective" against an avali? Heat is heat. Since when were humans suddenly super resistant to burning because we were based around 37C bodies instead of -30C, or whatever the typical avali body temperature ended up being? If you're weaponizing heat, you don't need temperatures all that far outside your natural body range to start causing damage. 50C water is already hot enough to start scalding you if you're dunked in it.

If anything, avali would be more resistant to thermal weapons than humans, if only marginally, because they're still coated in insulating feathers while we're naked.

Yes, hot weapons would be effective. But I think I'll repeat what I said three pages back:

His point was that thermal-based weapons would be LESS effective against an Avali, because they have an insulating layer of feathers and it takes more energy/time for heat to get through the feathers and get to skin
Humans, on the other hand, have nothing but a thin, sparse layer of hair, and skin contact with a hot object is quite easy.
(Though I suppose dragonbreath rounds against an avali would be quite effective, unless the avali's feathers are fire-resistent)

I felt threatened, then I realized that it's through that mod. Good work there though!

You have to make this Tech publically available.
Or, just send me a download link.
    That works too.

The Survival System helps a lot for underwater exploration. Although I have to be honest; I may have "upgraded" mine with a bright light.

Ooh, that's something I haven't thought about in a while.

Take away the heat, perhaps, if you are sufficiently advanced to have good utility fog, you can sap temperature from a creature into electricity, or just run electricity through it and either freeze or heat to desired temperature (ala Peltier Pumps).

And before I keep on bringing up utility fog, do the Avali use such technology?

Oh, I'm sorry. I completely misread what you'd written.

I guess I'd better head to bed before I do something even more stupid.

Almost certainly dozens. A funny fact someone pointed out to me once. "[in star trek] The pacifist federation has hundreds of styles of martial arts, yet the Klingons, as proud-warrior-race have exactly one style; and that involves a silly metal stick". Martial arts would be quite practical way of keeping sharp without needing to practice actual hunting or combat, I imagine a predator that doesn't know how to kill things is kind've a sad sight ;)

And quite deliberately so, though it's likely many many months before you find out why :p
