Just making sure this doesn't get buried, I'd really like to know if this would be a thing as well. Would an avali with multiple personalities for whatever reason project those personalities onto any drones they may be controlling, since they're controlled as an extension of their body, why not their minds?

Well.. since body is controlled by mind. one would assume the morality of the drone would depend on the user, and as such, drone controllers probably would have to go though some tests to evaluate the user of mental stability

    Thank you oh noble block.

I'm glad I could give you some ideas Ryu.

That does sound intresting, especially if it was a viable replacement for the diamond drill and not just a starter thing like the normal matter manipulator.

Imagine you're just going about business as usual and all of a sudden your co-worker starts to have an argument with a drone he's controlling and for some reason it starts speaking like wheatley.

First of all, awesome with chairs and secondly... what if the holograms arn't really there and can't be interacted with? What if we're just seeing them because we play Avali with augmented reality and characters of other races can't see them. :saywhat:

@RyuujinZERO I've heard re-breathers mentioned a number of times and realized no one has asked what they look like. Are they an external apparatus or are they small enough that they can be implanted in the user's body? My guess would be the former, but then I have to ask, what do they look like? Do you have an (at the very least, mental) image of what one would look like or is their appearance ambiguous at this point?

Can you Private Conversation with me? I'll need the contents of your starbound.log file after your attempt to spawn the merchants.

Oh, wonderful! I'd pretty much stopped following the old thread because I was tired of combing through 50 pages a day for the lone relevant mod update.

@Mackinz: Thanks for the merchant spawners.

@RyujinZERO: Eta for the rest of the guns? Patch after this one?

@All: Someone in the old thread was making a an Avali-reskin of the logistic frigate, did anything ever come of it?

I originally posted this in the other thread before the topic shift, and it got buried because of the drama that flared up immediately after. So here's the post:
My introduction to the concepts of augmentation was Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and one of the major elements of the setting is just this problem; their technology isn't advanced enough to keep glial tissue (nerve scars, essentially) from forming around their brain interfaces. So all cyborgs are essentially permanently hooked on a drug to suppress the scar tissue buildup.

...speaking of which, how varied are Avali augmentations? Are things like Jensen's arm-deployed blades a possibility for them, using their aerogel printers? Or do they stick more closely to the original form and function of a limb in their designs?
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
You mentioned that they can to some extent repair surface marks of augmentation. Would this include fake skin and feathers to allow heavily-augmented Avali to still glide?

Another one of the themes of DE:HR was fear of the part of the normal population that the transhumans were going to take over because they could work faster, stronger, and smarter. How much is this true in normal Avali society given their meritocratic background? Do many Avali get drastically augmented simply for convenience? Or is it more restricted to critical injuries and special circumstances?

    OK - important discussion time!
We need to sit down and have a talk... no, not that kind of talk. I mean colours.

Up til now, the props have been isolated in nature more-or-less, and there is some distinction between glass/LEDs/fabric, and metals. However, there are props out there that need to be made dyable, and have mixed colours on them - for example computer consoles with both LED displays, and metal panels. Obviously you cannot colour both independently, and as (hopefully) you have noticed, dying both LED's and metals the same colour looks rubbish. What we need, is to agree on a common set of colour combos for each dye option.

Dyes are split into 9 options:

    Default
    Red
    Orange
    Yellow
    Green
    Blue
    Purple
    Black
    White

For each of these colours, we need to agree on a pairring, so that when you dye an object of one colour, it's LED/Glass elements take on the complementary colour. For example in default, light grey panels are complemented by orange glass and displays.

I've been running some tests with ideas, but I would like further input on the subject, and perhaps a vote:

    Red
First up is red, which is a tricky one. Blue is it's natural counterpart, though white goes well with the white trim present by default. Black also complements red well:
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    Orange
Orange is tricky too. It could be an inversion of the default white/orange scheme, or perhaps use a blue or teal complementary colour
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

    Yellow
Yellow... is a pretty hateful colour, I don't foresee anyone ever using this colour to dye their entire base with. I didn't even like the test picture enoguh to bother posting... i may reserve yellow for other purposes as a special dye

    Green
Green importantly has a distinction,. in that green glass is a sort've aqua colour, designed to go with white. While green metal is a more grassy, military green. In this respect it goes well with red accents, or classic "Spartan" green/orange
    [IMG] [IMG]

    Blue
Blue/orange works together amazingly. This isn't up for vote :p
    [IMG]

    Purple
Purple orange, purple green kind've work (The latter I've decided I'll name "spike" as a colour combo xD), any other ideas, or either of those look good?
    [IMG] [IMG]

    Black
Black and red look great and I have special purposes for, not up for vote ;)

    White
We already have light grey/orange as the default scheme. I've always envisioned this as being complementary to the special condition of green (aqua cyber Vs military green)

Maybe the avali don't have such severe issues with rejection or internal scar formation. Humans have quite a few detrimental biological quirks, while it might seem convenient, it seems a in the realm of possibility and simplifies matters.

As for augmentations, it seems reasonable the options exist for specialised upgrades with things like hidden weapons or tools. Ultimately though military hardware is designed based on the standard avali body template, so it seems reasonable the "default" configuration of augmentation is at least outwardly the same shape so they can utilise those devices without special variants being built just for them. The one exception might be something akin to a small mecha, or weapon platform, that full-cybernetic avali can be plugged into directly since they share another common one-size fits all phenotype, replacing their normal size cybernetic body with a mobile weapon platform.

On flight, I'd wager augmeted wings might be designed with a better flight profile than their natural wings, especially if the pectoral muscles and underlying bone structure are augmented, they should be able to achieve lift on worlds where flight isn't normally possible.

Orange actually goes with just about every color a lot better than I'd expected.

    Default:
Unchanged, not up for vote, fine.
    Red:
I vote Red + Orange. (Red + Blue is fine too, if you want to balance out the color assignments.)
    Orange:
    I vote Orange + Blue
    Yellow:
    N/A.
    Green:
    I vote Green + Orange
    Blue:
N/A. (I agree, looks really good).
    Purple:
    I vote Purple + Orange.
    Black:
    N/A.
    White:
N/A. (What about a shade closer to White + Blue?) Nevermind, I see what you're going for now with green.

Black+Orange is nice too. It's what I use for my media player.

Ok, this is entirely from my sub-par and awful sense of aesthetics.
    Red:
    Gimme dat Blue.
    Orange:
    I like the Blue/teal
    Yellow:
    Yellow :lickitung:

    Green:
I say red because orange is everywhere.
    Blue:
    Fair enough.
    Purple:
Green seems nice (but honestly I don't really know for this one)
    Black:
    Pink! :lickitung:
    White:
Nothing special, but I do like how it looks with the green.

My votes (although they all look decent)

    Red with White
    Orange
    with Blue
    Green with Orange
    Purple with Green

The emphasis I would be looking for in in variety of schemes.

My own votes. Behold my taste in color schemes and weep.
    Red with White
Orange with either White or Teal
    Purple with Green (because Spike)

Fact: Yellow is the easiest color to spot from a distance.

Yellow is a bright color, and you want something to contrast it with. I believe the wiki said that Avali use bright, contrasting colors to decorate.

Hum... Black and yellow = bees
    Orange and yellow= default
Brown and yellow? I vote for brown and yellow.

You also have to remember that in an augmented limb you have somewhere to put things that you don't have with an organic limb: inside the limb itself.

If you had a sort of "pop-out" blade extruder or railpistol, they could both have the augments and still fit standard avali things. This isn't limited to just weapons either. Imagine an electrician having a soldering iron in their finger, or a construction worker having a jigsaw built into their arm.

Another possible thing would be retractable feathers on their arms so that they don't get in the way in situations where they otherwise would.
