Just because a group of shitheads happen to abuse something you like/do/identify with, doesn't mean you should drop it. If people flaunt their asexuality as if that made them "better" than others or as some other type of "distinction", that's their own problem, not something inherent to asexuality.
Seriously, just be who you are in a healthy fashion. Don't let the actions of others force your hand one way or the other. Don't forget that the "special snowflake" argument, while in some ways valid, has also been and is still sometimes used to force those who are afraid of social ridicule into compliance with the norm.

That's often the problem with blanket terms, or "tags". The tag/no-tag argument has been going on for what's probably centuries, so you can either choose to identify yourself with an established group, clarifying confusions as you go, or just explain yourself in simple terms, which is the way I prefer.
I mean, "I'm not interested in sex or intimacy" is simple enough for anyone to understand.
